Oddly, he would probably be a farily hot commodity right now if he didn't have any experience as a head coach.

He's a position coach, with a title. I think there are like 4-5 "assistant head coaches" on staff.

Re: Typical Cotlar Interview
My biggest issue with Cotlar are his questions. If you listen to good talk radio personalities, sports or otherwise, they ask short concise questions which will then get a longer answer from the guest. He tends to ramble on in actually getting to a question which then elicits a simple response. If you have a guest on the show its to hear them speak, not let them listen to you.

Round Guy and Garmin are completely clueless about sports. Round Guy was saying how cool it would be to have college football on Tuesday, Wed, and Friday nights and that they should do that sometime.
Garmin was saying that the only men's basketball program in the state that 'had the ball rolling' was UNI. He then grouped ISU and Iowa into the same category for MBB on more than one occasion
The only reason that show is successful is because there are people in this market who would rather listen to the Iowa BCS debate everyday for a week than listen to a good national show. So many people in this market have no clue about the sporting world besides ISU or Iowa. Makes for pretty depressing sports radio. It always amazes me how little the sports anchors in this city know about local sports much less national sports. I remember watching Heidi Soliday simply for the entertainment value of listening to her slog through mispronouncing national sports names on her teleprompter and not knowing what the hell was going on with local high school sports. I mean, I knew way more about sports overall than she did, and she was getting paid to report on it! Unreal.
I don't watch Garmin anymore as his delivery is too boring. John Walters is usually pretty good, and Keith does OK.

Re: Typical Cotlar Interview
My favorite Cotlar-ism is when his guest makes a salient observation, and Cotlar comes back with, "oh obviously" when it most definitely was not "obvious", especially to you Larry.
I listen to the national shows as well, but it's not like they don't have dead horses to beat too.

I've never heard them one time(on their current station) and I listen to sports radio all the time.

Re: Typical Cotlar Interview
For the summer of 2009 it shows 1700 having a .5% share. That means that if there are 200 people listening to radio in the metro only one of them is listening to The Champ. For comparison sake that's the same as the Contemporary Christian channel. The only way this channel gets listeners is through controversy. Their main attraction is a guy who's been fired from multiple radio stations and broadcast from a car dealership.

Re: Typical Cotlar Interview
Cotlar's interviews are always an adventure, but compared to Garman or Round Guy, he might as well be Howard Cosell.

Re: Typical Cotlar Interview
Well in fairness to round guy, I don't think he's supposed to carry the sports side of the show. Garmen is the worst considering his line of work. Of course I remember walking with rg to the insight bowl game so maybe I cut him some slack hah
