Typical Cotlar Interview
Heard Coltar interviewing some national guy over the lunch hour. They talked about the BCS, Iowa's possiblities, etc. Then they start discussing the Notre Dame job. Cotlar asks if he thinks they'd consider Dan McCarney! No offense, I like Dan and all and the guy basically said the same thing but ND is not going to consider hiring him and having to basically go on the defense about his record and risk losing their NBC contract by not hiring a big name coach.
Different station, same old Cotlar...

Re: Typical Cotlar Interview
Did he seriously? Get the guy off the air. You have to wonder what the national guy starts thinking about Iowans when he gets asked a question like that

Re: Typical Cotlar Interview
Just like when he talks about BB open jobs and always brings Wayne Morgan up.

Re: Typical Cotlar Interview
Did he ask him his thoughts about Keno Davis' run at Drake two years ago? And then he answers with, who?

Re: Typical Cotlar Interview
His interview at the end of the show was the best.
Cotlar: You will be doing the BCS Championship game...
Charles: No actually, ESPN and ABC will be doing that from now on.
Cotlar: That's right, you'll be covering the Fiesta Bowl. What do you think about Iowa?
Charles: Actually, I'm doing the Orange Bowl.

Re: Typical Cotlar Interview
Man, is he out of touch.
Outside of Iowa, the typical response would be "Dan who"? and then once they were told, the second comment following would be "why would ND even consider that?".
Clone to the Bone with the up and coming IOWA STATE. -
Re: Typical Cotlar Interview
I honestly wish I had the audio of when he had Pitino on and his first question was about Keno Davis. Pitino had no clue who he was and was clearly annoyed. The interview only got more awkward from there. I mean it was hilarious.

Pitino paused and said, "I have no idea who that is" There was another akward pause and Cotlar says, "okay then!"

Charles: Right now I'm guessing it's full of ****** bags. "Missouri is free to create an enduring basketball rivalry with Auburn." -

Pitino was ****** too.
I have never heard a worse interview than ones Cotlar does.
Round Guy and Garmin are completely clueless about sports. Round Guy was saying how cool it would be to have college football on Tuesday, Wed, and Friday nights and that they should do that sometime.
Garmin was saying that the only men's basketball program in the state that 'had the ball rolling' was UNI. He then grouped ISU and Iowa into the same category for MBB on more than one occasion
The only reason that show is successful is because there are people in this market who would rather listen to the Iowa BCS debate everyday for a week than listen to a good national show. So many people in this market have no clue about the sporting world besides ISU or Iowa. Makes for pretty depressing sports radio.

I would say that DMac has a fair chance of ending up at ND.

It shows you that people in this market crave sports talk from a local angle, no matter who is doing the talking. KXNO has been huge in the ratings the past few years. They could be even bigger if they would get a real signal. It is sad when they have 6 hours of quality local broadcast but only 2 hours of it gets outside of Des Moines.
