    Des Moines/Johnston/Ankeny Pickup Basketball

I have lived in Johnston for about a year and am dying to start playing some basketball again...played a lot of pickup ball at college a couple years ago. Does anyone know of any decent games at night or on the weekends in the area?

West Des Moines has open gym on Monday nights & Saturday afternoons. The info is on the West Des Moines Parks & Rec website. Johnston has open gym on Wednesday nights at the highschool. Both of these are a couple dollars everytime you want to play. I have been to the West Des Moines one, and there are quite a few people who play.

You guys might want to PM each other about the location of these open gyms...you don't want me to show up and make you all look silly.

Gloria Dei Lutheran in Urbandale has men's b-ball starting at 6:30pm on Monday nights. I go to that church and play occasionally, it's not that competitive and is a mix of guys ranging from high school to older guys so usually everyone just matches up against someone close to their skills.

The Y by the Wal-Mart in Windsor Heights has pickup games but you either have to have a membership, pay the daily fee, or be a guest of a member to get in.

The downtown Y has some pretty serious games most nights of the week, especially friday night. These games have some pretty high talent levels and you def dont want to be out of shape. During the high school/college basketball offseason it gets a lot better w/ those players coming in to play.
