Re: Red Light/Speeding Camera's coming to Cedar Rapids
I've seen people in Clive Hickman & 100th stop mid-intersection then back up, while the camera is flashing constantly. Made me wonder if that person gets 5 tickets instead of one.

I heard about this one a while back, much funnier than the french one above! Speed Camera Prank - Pictures - Funny Hub Sports journalism is people who can't write interviewing people who can't talk for people who can't read. -
Re: Red Light/Speeding Camera's coming to Cedar Rapids
they do have officers that review them- i am sure he only got one. However- a truck with a similar plate as mine ran a red and he had a ball hitch covering a letter, so I was the one that got a ticket in the mail. I called the number and actually talked to a real person and said that I dont drive a red pickup, I have a green car- did anyone look at the info on the letter when they sent it? obviously not- it had a picture of a red pickup, and a description of my registration, and they still sent it because it was automated.

Yeah, I'd be curious as to what the speeding cameras take photos for, 5 over, 10 over, 1 over? Also if they're approved in Des Moines, when are they looking at adding them?

Re: Red Light/Speeding Camera's coming to Cedar Rapids
speed cameras are straight up communism. It's total BS and has nothing to do with anything other than generating revenue. I don't want to hear anything about safety, cause that is only a (+) that comes along with the state making more money off chumps like us just trying to get to work on time. If the concern was safety, would there be a mandatory seat belt law that carried a fine of $80ish and no restriction on motorcyclists wearing helmets? I'd be wiling to bet that the likelihood of severe injury is far greater for someone on a motorcycle not wearing a helmet than someone in a vehicle not wearing a seat belt. I understand that it is dumb not to wear a seatbelt, but the logic hear is ridiculous if I am to believe that it is the safety of the public which is the primary concern. Isn't it weird that amidst huge state budget cuts and a tough economy, suddenly they want to install speed and red light cameras all over the place? I guess they don't want people to be jobless and unsafe???
If within the next week or so I no longer post on here anymore, It's because I made a judgment call and moved off the grid.

Re: Red Light/Speeding Camera's coming to Cedar Rapids
They say these are to make it safer so people dont run red lights, but when I am coming up on the ones on Hickman in Clive I gun it so I dont hit the light so by the time I get to the light I am cruising at 55-60 MPH so that defeats the whole purpose I think. Of course if they do install speed cameras with the red light cameras...I am SOL

Re: Red Light/Speeding Camera's coming to Cedar Rapids
I had a defensive driving course the other day for my job and the Highway Patrolman teaching the class basially said these things are bogus and the tickets are fairly easy to get dropped. The funniest part was the topic that brought them up was the fact that the Council Bluffs PD who recently just installed these cameras was able to purchase 16 new Chevy Tahoe's, while there are troopers who patrol in the CB city limits are forced to take furloughs and are having layoffs.

Re: Red Light/Speeding Camera's coming to Cedar Rapids
So have they ever said what type of threshold there is to get a ticket. In earlier reports, it sounded like they have a fine schedule for 1 or 2 mph over the speed limit. Has anyone heard whether they will enforce it that tough, or do you need to be going at least 5 mph over to get a ticket?

Re: Red Light/Speeding Camera's coming to Cedar Rapids
Redlight cameras are terrible. They've been shown to increase the number of rear-end collisions at those intersections due to people slamming on the brakes once the light turns yellow. Also, watch out for "right turn on red." Make sure you stop before turning. Stop twice. They'll nail you for the ol' "slow-and-go" technique.

Two weeks ago the media in CR was reporting that speeders traveling in excess of the speed limit by 1-5 mph will receive $25 tickets. Faster speeds result in higher fines.
Not good for my driving habits at all!
