Internet Options in the DSM Area

What are people using, paying, and at what speed?

I have Mediacom - 7.5 mbps, and recently our area (North Ankeny) has been experiencing TERRIBLE outages and high latency (terrible for online gaming and VOIP). Looking at switching but I need to know what people are happy with using before I make any changes.

I wouldn't switch because its been fine for the past 2 years but we've been dealing with this issue for over a month now, and they still can't get it sorted out. I've talked to a ton of people and still have had no luck getting anybody to resolve the issue.

Mediacom or Qwest DSL is your only option in Des Moines. I am fine with DSL, but some people prefer to pay for a little more speed with mediacom

I live in North Ankeny North in Prairie Ridge and we couldn't ever count on Mediacom. It was out at least once a week, I knew the guys by name. Bad for an IT guy that works from home. I've been on Qwest for over a year now and have never had an outage and have close to 6 download and 750 upload. I just checked it tonight using speakeasy.net/speedtest/

Yeah ankeny has some dsl fiber areas, I'd look into that

So you have a 7.0 mbps Qwest package in the Prairie Ridge area? I'm pretty sure if you can get access to that, I should be able to as well. I'm probably just a stones throw from your house then.

I never had problems with Mediacom until just recently with the latency and dropped connection issue. It's been going on for about a month now. You would think they would try to resolve issues and satisfy customers better....
