At first I really liked the sounds of Them Crooked Vultures, but after about a week or two of listening, I just got tired of them. A lot of repetition and not a ton of creativity. A lot of it sounds too "safe", no one really went out of their comfort zone much.

I really liked the Muse album (never been a fan of them), then slowly, I found myself having urges to listen to more Queen and I realized why. Muse is nothing more than a combination of a ****** Queen cover band sprinkled with a bit of the Killers. On top of all of this, they are trying much too hard to be "deeper" than they really are.

Street Sweeper was a fun album, but the same exact sound as everything else Morello has done before.

Chevelle might get my honorable mention.

Give it another listen. Seriously. There is nothing "safe" about that album. Maybe you feel that way because it has that unmistakable Josh Homme sound, and after a couple listens it feels like a QOTSA album? I felt that way for a time, but pushed through it. The more I listen to the album, the more I like it.

There were a few of us. I don't think Jeremy was that enthusiastic with the idea of setting up a whole new forum. Chris seems to be more of a music guy so maybe he's up for it? There was a social group, but those aren't quite the same. I think it would be a great addition to the site. How often are there deleted posts in music threads?

Yep, definately coming at them from the punk side. I started on the album that was released before 1372 at the recommendation from a friend but didn't really like it. Tried this out because it got such a good review on the site that I get my music news from. I've also heard "Tennessee" and thought it was alright. I'll get more into them in the near future since I haven't had the time lately since October and early November had so many new releases.

You definately see them different than I do w/ Skynyrd and Van Morrison. I saw them as a mix of Springseen, The Hold Steady, and The Gaslight Anthem.

"6s and 7s" is totally southern rock, and Lucero definitely has a lot of that southern grit to them, especially in the production of the older albums (go back and listen to the other albums now, I guarantee you'll dig them more). The horn parts REALLY remind me of upbeat Van Morrison, as opposed to Springsteen, but I suppose I'm splitting hairs.

Interesting that you compare them to Springsteen and The Hold Steady and Gaslight Anthem, as I've always felt that The Hold Steady took Springsteen's approach and distorted the guitars a little more and rocked a little harder. Gaslight Anthem is a little closer to sounding straight up like Springsteen, IMO.
