Re: Subs
Anybody from Philadelphia / Jersey ?
For some reason, the "HOAGIES" taste the best vs anywhere else in the country.
Otherwise, I agree what you said about Jimmy Johns.

Re: Subs
My rankings:
1. Jimmy Johns.
2. Any where else that delivers
Seriously, Jimmy Johns has brought me food so many times in the past semester when I was stuck in the sweeney lab for about 12 hours working on my senior design project. And the great thing is that the guys deliver it to the lab, not just to the front of the building. And it is way faster then ordering anything else.

Re: Subs
Love Jimmy Johns. Also work there, so I might be just a tad biased.

Re: Subs
In order of being able to eat healthy:
1. Subway
1a. Blimpie
3. Jimmy John's
4. Planet Sub
5. Quiznos.
Quizno's is one of the most unhealthy fast food places to eat anywhere. The large tuna melt has like 1800 calories - about 300 more than the monster thickburger from Hardee's. Most of their sandwiches have between 800 and 1000 calories in the "regular" size, and almost all of them approach 1200 in the large size.
To put that in perspective, the Angus Bacon and Cheese from McDonalds only has 790 calories, and that's the highest calorie sandwich on their menu. You could eat 2 big macs and injest fewer calories than many regular quiznos subs.
Throw in a bag of chips and a regular drink, and you're pretty easily going to hit 2000 calories in a single meal. That's close to the USDA recommended daily amount for the average person.
I'm not saying that everything on Subway's menu is good for you, but at least you aren't punishing your body as much as you are at quizno's.

I also enjoy Manhattan Deli on Ingersoll and Maccabee's Deli on Polk Blvd. Rabbi Jacobson is always good for some humor while he is preparing your sandwich.

Re: Subs
The bread at Jimmy John's is phenomenal. The only problem with there (and, if I remember correctly, Blimpie) is that they don't have the selection of toppings that you can get at other places. I pretty much just want some lettuce, mustard, and black olives on my sandwich.
I enjoy Quizno's, but not for their sandwiches. Their honey mustard chicken salad is really good, and pretty low-cal (especially since they put the dressing on the side). The pita bread that accompanies the sandwich is pretty good.
I know Panera isn't a "sub" place, but the Bacon Turkey Bravo is pretty much the best cold-meat sandwich ever.

Re: Subs
Little King - Omaha
Downtown Deli - Ames
Chains - Gross.

Re: Subs
Quiznos and JJ are the two places I go for sandwiches. Subway's bread is terrible and they're packaged meats and cheeses don't taste good either. Sub City is probably the best non-chain sub place I've been to.

Small is roughly half that, but a still substantial 550 or so. http://www.quiznos.com/subsandwiches...tionalInfo.pdf "Homemade beer, after all, is like a democracy. Every so often, you’re gonna hate what comes out of it. But when it’s good, it’s the best." - woot.com -

This does remind me of my list of things that will **** off a subway employee however: - Order a chicken pizziola
- Order a salmon sub when in season
- Attempt to tell them to what level you want your sub toasted
- Order a salad
- Ask for the old wedge cut
- Not as big of an issue now but, trying to use old sub club stamps

And for small ma an pa deli's. Downtown Deli in Ames is still one of my all time favorites. I think there is still a Hungry Hobo in the complex at the Hy-Vee on Grand.
The Hungry Hobo that was on 22nd in WDM is now a Smashburger.
