And to those that say they're just doing their job..... people that worked for Hitler said the same.
Wow Godwin's Law took effect really quickly there.
Anyway, I really don't think you can equate being a Nazi with working for a telemarketer. It's just people who need a job. That's why if I get a real person on one of those calls I'm always polite but very to the point. As soon as they give me a second of breathing room I say, "I'm not interested in your product (or service) at this time." and then hang up. I've had friends who worked for ISU Foundations (telemarketers who try to get you to donate to ISU) and they've said it's just terrible. People yell and scream at you all the time. I don't feel like ruining somebody's day just over an annoying phone call.

They wrecked my day by calling me - they started it! -

No Kidding... I have never asked for it but im guessing these companies will always find ways to get peoples phone numbers no matter what list you sign up for

I provided my cell number to Mediacom when they recently scheduled a service call. Since then, I've been receiving regular sales calls from 515-246-6412, to the tune of 10-20 times a week! Today I called Mediacom at 800-332-0245. The service rep told me she would make my number "private," and the calls would stop. Mind you, they haven't yet, but I'm encouraged. (To get a service rep, you want to ignore the menu options and just hit 0.) Hope this helps.
No idea if that would work or not, but no one posted anything since then, and that was in May.

Re: Telemarketers
The most annoying telemarketing calls I get are from ISU begging for money. Or the frickin band calling me asking for money.

Gah! I get those same calls from Mediacom. They keep trying to get me to add their phone services. The last time they asked me if I would give them my email address so they could send me promotional offers. I was like... ??? what?? I'm pretty sure I've already received emails from them trying to get me to add phone service. Besides, why would a telemarketer ever expect someone to give them another way to send advertisements?

Re: Telemarketers
ISU College of Ag. Just went through about 2 months where they called my cell phone every night. Weeknds too. If I saw a 294- number come through after 6 PM, I simply didn't pick up. I shall never give money to them again.
Breast Cancer. Have a friend who was diagnosed, treated and survived. Took part in fundraiser in her honor and gave some money. These people have called me, for what seems weekly, for 3 years. Each time I calmly, but sternly, tell the to take me off their call list immediately. And yet the calls continue. I shall never give money to them again, even if I get breast cancer. 300% of the money I gave them has been wasted on calls.
What does one have to do to get through to them that they have blown any chance EVER of getting dinero from me again? "It's a jungle out there kiddies. Have a very fruitful day. J. Buffett -
Re: Telemarketers
We get them from our credit card companies a lot of all the add on crap. There are other companies we do business with that call for other reasons, like the company sold the marketer the right to use their name to sell something else. I give the phone to my 3 yo and they never seem to call back.

Re: Telemarketers
I have no difficulty getting telemarketers to hang up on me. I tell them they have a sexy voice and ask if we can get together. I do not care if it is male or female. If they do not hang up, which happens very rarely, I do, very quickly. So far, none have called back a second time. I have been doing this the last 20 years.

Re: Telemarketers
The bill for the "do not call list" exempted a ton of things, including some political calls (imagine that), and also companies that have done some business with you in the past. I am sure that they are skirting the boundaries of what the law defines as allowable, just close enough that they have plausible deniability. Assuming that they really have anything to fear by breaking the law. First, you'd have to be mad enough to pursue the issue, and second, they probably know exactly where the line lies, and wouldn't get anything other than a hand slapping if you did waste your time, energy and resources to nail them.
