New week, new storm. Please keep discussion here for organizational purposes.
It is going to be an interesting week.
If its going to snow, make it a lot of snow. None of this 'just enough to make driving a pain in the ***" stuff.
anyone got any updates for snow fall expectations for the state?
It all seems to be varying depending on where the rain\snow line falls as the storm comes though wednesday. Sounds like snow all of thurs either way, but weds could be snow or it could be rain\ice.
they still saying we could be looking at 10 inches or more statewide?
Don't know about rest of state, but KTTC (Rochester, MN) on tonight's weather segment said something to the effect that it could rival the early December storm for northern IA/southern MN. Of course, she first siad "I don't want to hype this up, but....".
Up here, we got a foot.
Potentially, though it is looking increasingly likely that a good chunk of s. central and SE Iowa will see a period of rain/freezing rain for at least parts of Wed, if not Thursday.
So there will likely be dramatic differences in totals across the state compared to last time, let alone if we get into sig. ice impacts.
Something else to consider for those who do see rain, you could probably put a rough estimate of every quarter of an inch of rain being equivalent somewhere around 3 to 4 inches of snow you're not getting. That's what will make this tricky, off by an hour on the transition to snow, and that extra .4 or .5 inches of rain cuts about 6" off the snow totals.
I hope you guys get 3 feet im off to San Diego. So by Jan 3rd I expect this to be all gone
It seems that a majority of the time, these storms are really over hyped, which I suppose is just to play it safe. The last one was right on the money, so Im hoping that this storm is in that mode.
Those of you that know what you are talking about, please keep this updated. I will be traveling to Iowa and not sure what our plans should be. Thanks in advance...this is why I don't miss Iowa much.
Also keep in mind that there is a lot of snow in the ditches so it will drift on the roads quickly.
I hope the dealership plays nice tomorrow and I can get my truck before heading out of town on Wednesday...
