Re: more mountain lions!
These things can kill about anything(including humans). I'm not sure why people think they wouldn't go after a horse...

Re: more mountain lions!
the horse on the news with the shredded leg seemed to really be "enjoying" those mountain lions.

Edit: Wiki does list horses and even cattle as typical prey. Pound for pound, the mountain lion is the most powerful creature on the planet. Every once in a while a cougar attacks a horse around here.

In trying to disprove you I ran into some information that almost agrees with you. I'm assuming Jaguars & Cougars are pretty closely related:
Cat. The strongest animals in this category, pound-for-pound, are the jaguars. Found in Central and South America, a jaguar (binomial name: Panthera onca) normally weighs as much as 211 lb (95 kg). This powerful predator can drag an 800-lb (360-kg) prey in its jaws up a tree or 8 meters to a safe place where it can devour its meal, away from being spotted by other bigger cats (like a tiger or a lion). This means that for every pound (0.45 kg) a jaguar weighs, it is able to drag the equivalent weight of 3.79 lb (1.71 kg), or nearly four times its own body weight. -

Ants are the most powerful creatures pound-for-pound on the planet. An 80-pound ant would destroy an 80-pound mountain lion.

People find a negative and use that as an excuse not to have that creature around or use it to justify removing that creature. Does it suck for the guy that owes the horses, yes, but maybe Iowans need to adjust to having them around, people in other states have had to do it.
I'm in no way a "tree hugger", but what many of one have advocated is based on a stupid irrational fear.
