(being from there I'm sure you're well aware of some of these questionable characters that reside in boone) The only thing I would recommend is writing up a bill of sale on your own that just states the obvious "you are buying this car as is, I have disclosed any and all known mechanical issues with said vehicle, etc." just to cover yourself. when your selling a car for $500, its most likely gonna be to some dude with a mullet or rat tail, a cleft pallet or what have you and you don't want that guy coming back and trying to fight you because you allegedly "screwed him". I had a buddy sell a dirtbike a while back (to another booner) and it broke down not long after the sale. the dude basically tried to stalk him to get a few hundred bucks back so it's good to cover all of your bases when dealing with degenerates. This. If you are selling a car for a VERY low amount (like under $2000.00). I listed my 06 Pontiac G6 at 9500.00 and the only inquiry I got was a guy wanted to trade his Harley straight across for it.
I listed the car on Cars.com and sold in within a week for the asking price.

Summer of '08 sold a Jeep with 200K miles on eBay. Slick as a whistle. Even got a good price, oddly enough. Th only glitch came when the guy from Chicago missed 2 different appointments to pay for it and pick it up. He did show up, about a week and a half late, and with a cashiers check instead of cash. The good news is that it all worked out.
If remember correctly, eBay cost us about $90, but we chose some of the extras on the ad so no, we didn't just stick to the cheapest ad. And, I think that if we didn't meet the minimum price and thus not sell it, we could have gotten the cost of the ad refunded.
