Re: Conan's Royal Screw Up
Good idea NBC. Make Conan look like the bad guy. That'll be best in the end.
Before anyone says anything, I understand that he's under contract(if true) and he has to abide by it, but they could be respectful of Conan's wishes and let him be released without issue.

Re: Conan's Royal Screw Up
I gotta wonder what Letterman's ratings are doing because of this?

Re: Conan's Royal Screw Up
"The Tonight Show" name in itself would say that the show would be aired that night, not the next day. That and the show being the same timeslot for 60 years should be defense enough.

Re: Conan's Royal Screw Up
That is too funny. I cannot believe he would not negotiate a specific time and 'assume' a guarantee based on history. He is screwed and the only person to blame is himself.
Maybe it is his bad hair after all!

Re: Conan's Royal Screw Up
No matter what loop holes NBC finds in the contract, they still end up looking like the dick in this situation.

Say what you want (and I don't particularly care for Conan, or Leno for that matter), but NBC will come out of this looking like idiots, and THEY will only have themselves to blame for that. -
Re: Conan's Royal Screw Up
NBC looks terrible in this whole thing. Even if Conan gets his show moved/cancelled/whatever, NBC screwed this thing up.
Has anyone watched the last two night? Conan ripping on NBC has been absolutely hilarious.....he has been relentless.

I can't read the original link, because it is blocked here, so this might be mentioned there. But the NBC show that originally followed The Tonight Show was The Tomorrow Show (1973-1982) with Tom Snyder...

Why would anyone even think that they would move it?

Re: Conan's Royal Screw Up
LOL
" there is an "implied" guarantee the show would begin at 11:35."
Okay Conan....maybe you should have made sure it was in your contract.
-
Re: Conan's Royal Screw Up
I'm pretty sure Conan's lashing out (which has been brilliant) is mostly because he's stuck. "The Tonight Show" does not equal "11:35 p.m. talk show in the eastern time zone" He should have had that written into the contract.
I don't know if anybody else has read "The Late Shift" by Bill Carter, but NBC did something similar with Letterman before he left for CBS, offering him "The Tonight Show", but it had all sorts of conditions like it didn't take place for a year & half, NBC could back out if they wanted to. One of Dave's producers summed it up: They were trying to keep Dave at Late Night, give Leno time to make his Tonight Show work, and if Letterman took it, he would denounced in the press as throwing an old friend in front of a train. Dave called Johnny Carson and Johnny told him if he had been treated like that, he would walk. And walk Dave did

Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style. -
