This Guy had no idea what he was doing

NBC exec: Conan is ?chicken-hearted, gutless? - Access Hollywood - msnbc.com

This cat really messed up. I don't know how in the world he thought he could run a 9 pm show in front of Conan and think it would work. Not too many people are going to sit down and watch 2 hours of night time talk shows. He wants to say Conan was the problem but he wasn't. He had a show at 9 that didn't compete whatsoever with the CBS and ABC lineups. He wants to throw all of that onto the guy who won't be there as an escape. This is a joke. If you just get rid of Jay and throw Conan in his spot on the tonight show, he competes with Letterman. However, since you throw Leno in front of him and take all of the "best" guests and give them to Jay, of course the show won't be as successful. I do not who left this guy in charge, but for crying out loud.....

You can't explain this to the haters even though it was the NBC affiliates that precipitated this because LENO'S SHOW SUCKS and viewers are leaving before the late local news comes on.

The best part is where the exec talks about how conan didnt change his show. The fact that he did change his show is probably the most common complaint about him taking over the tonight show.

Conan on Fox will be cool. How does anybody in the entire free world think that Jay is funny? I can see not likeing Conan or Dave but I can't fathom enjoying what Jay Leno brings to the table. Joke reader is all he is.

Keep in mind Conan's ratings weren't good before Leno took over the 9 PM slot.

And even the most loyal Conan fans would tell you his shows weren't that good at the 10:35 timeslot.

I think NBC has totally screwed this up but their screwup isn't in firing Conan. It was with Leno. They should have either let him go to ABC or Fox after Conan took over, or they should never have decided to put Conan on in the first place.

Leno isn't exactly the victim here but he does get a disproportionate amount of heat for this mess.

You know, I can't really explain Leno. I think what attracts fans is that he seems likeable and he seems to be a good guy.

Although some of the things I've read lately about his offscreen antics make me question that.

I agree that his stuff isn't that funny but I'd watch him over Dave or Conan even though I like some of their stuff better. As a whole I think Leno does a better job but for individual segments Conan and Dave are funnier.

I think Leno at 9:00 PM and Conan at 10:35 PM could have worked if Leno would have taken his "comedy" in a direction other than the talk show format, perhaps something like this new Seinfeld show, and if they had varied the starting time. Conan was taking over the traditional talk show, so the onus should have been on Leno to change formats. They just should have known better than to put two talk shows back to back, with the local news stuck in between.

Agreed! They even said originally they were going to go in a different direction, and then the only major change they had was getting rid of the desk.

That's the entertainment biz for ya. If you don't pull in the ratings you get canceled.

Even a highly regarded show (by critics anyway) like Friday Night Lights had to be helped out by Direct TV to stay on the air
