Contemplating Switching from Razor to Electric...HELP!

I've got a job now in which I am constantly interacting with people and I need to look sharp every day. Unfortunately for me, I have sensitive skin and fast growing facial hair. Shaving as often as every other or sometimes even every three days results in bloody messes and lots of irritation, even with a brand new razor. I have tried aftershaves, lotions, balms, new shaving gel/lotion/creams and none of those have really worked.d I usually wait 4 days between shaves and this is not ok in my current line of work. Now I am contemplating what I have long regarded as one of the ultimate sins: Electric shavers. If I do make the switch, I plan on purchasing a really nice one, not some cheapo one that you would give to a high schooler who is too afraid to use a razor.

If anyone has ever made this switch, I would greatly appreciate your input. If you tried the switch and it resulted in a disaster, I would also appreciate your input. Also, if you recommend switching, which types of electrics are you using? Thanks!

I hate electric razors. I made the switch last year to safety razors. A lot closer and a lot cheaper but it's more work and takes longer.

I went with the Merkur Futur(adjustable} and also have a Merkur Hefty classic. I prefer the Hefty classic.

With the Merker Futur you can set it to not be as close. Some people with sensitive skin actually have the best luck with the real sharp blades.

I've was a Mach 3 guy for the longest time; I even used it on my head for deployments and whatnot. Now I roll with the Fusion, and I can't ever imagine going back to an electric. Godspeed, sir.

my sensitive skin would never last with an electric. I tried one for a while and gave up. I'd spend the extra money though cause im sure you get what you pay for.

One thing that I've heard is that if you're going to make the switch to electric, you need to do it for a least a couple of weeks.

You don't need to be all macho and use a safety.
But you don't need to be a softy and use electric.
Just be a dude and use Fusion.

On a side note I recommend a nice shaving cream, like "Kiss my Face".

I have the same problem. I could never find a solution to the massacre after every shave. I have never used an electric and the though of it sends shivers up my spine. I have just ended up growing a beard and keeping it nicely trimmed. The only problem I have is that when I ski it not only keeps my face warm but give the moisture in my breath a place to freeze. Thus resulting in icy beard.

I think its a loose loose situation. Looking forward to seeing where this thread goes.

I am currently using the Fusion...dont get me wrong, when I shave, its usually the most fantastic shave ever. Its just the next day or after I work out that is terrible when I'm all irritated.

I have the same problem with the fusion razors. Luckily I don't need to look "clean shaven" every day for work.

I haven't tried it myself but a couple of people I know with the same problem will only use the fusion once every couple of days and then use a cheap 2 or 3 blade disposable to do a quick shave on the days in between. Again I don't know if that is the answer but they seem to think it keeps the irritation down

I usually use a Mach 3, but I do have an electric Braun, Smart Control 3. Whatever you decide, make sure you get one with good internal parts made of metal versus plastic. I think that is one of the differences. I have been pretty happy overall with the Braun.

Mixed reviews, but overall good construction. Around the $60-70 price range versus the $30 cheaper ones, and I'm sure you can find better even.

I went electric for the same reasons you are contemplating for about a year when I got a real job and had to start shaving every day. I tried a couple different ones and never got as close of shave with the electric and found the the additional stubble really caused more irritation than I had with a razor. Eventually I switched back and just got used to the razor. Now it doesn't bother me at all, but I do find that I actually prefer a blade that is a little dull. My advice: stick with the razor and eventually you'll get used to shaving and/or learn how to shave every day without the irritation.

Like some people said, don't buy the cheap stuff, and give it 2-3 weeks of usage to get used to it, and get a good feel if it's working for you.

I tried the electric route for a while but it never shaves very close and there will always be random hairs that don't get shaved all over your face.
I always wash my face with a soap scrub, then put on the cream, wait a minute, then shave.

thats all fine but were not talking about easy women. But if you all start, I'm interested in seeing where this thread goes too.
