Re: Monday winter weather
I love the working from home portion of my job - however I keep getting up and looking at this drift at the end of my driveway that keeps getting bigger and the thought that in an hour I must go out and clear this said drift so ISUFan22 can get into the garage.....I hate winter

I was in Ames for the blizzard during Dead Week. Home in southwest Iowa for the blizzard during Christmas. Back in Ames for this blizzard.
Was January 7th considered a blizzard? We drove back to Ames that afternoon/evening and experienced complete white out conditions for a good 20 miles on Highway 20 around Iowa Falls before we made it to I-35. That sucked.
And then there's the ice storm we had last week. -

I even said to my husband, what if this is like a blizzard with the wind and all the fresh snow???? As noted below, the NWS yesterday afternoon was alerting us to the possiblity of blowing snow this afternoon and as you will see, total snowfall was 1-2 inches. Even during the Christmas blizzard, it seemed like the NWS was riding a teeter totter when it came to snowfall predictions for Central Iowa.
I've always been fascinated with weather, but normally don't pay much attention to 5, 8, or 13 as they tend to "dumb things" down as well do the Des Moines radio stations.

Re: Monday winter weather
Did Iowa State get a snow day with the interstate closed?
I'll take a Jack & Hilton -
Re: Monday winter weather
Looks like I-35 is now listed as "impassable" from the Huxley exit on North.

Nope, but usually in these situations professors are "encouraged" to accomodate students who can't make it to class. CyRide is still running in Ames, and the majority of students either live on a CyRide route and/or within walking distance. I walked to/from classes, and while it sucked it wasn't the worst thing in the world either.

On here: Impassable/closed down to Huxley: Iowa Department of Transportation Traveler Information
On here, all the way to DSM: Iowa DOT Travel Information Service
Either way, looks like no work tonight.

Re: Monday winter weather
You know it's a bad winter when ISU cancels classes for a whole or part of a day two times in one winter.
-
Re: Monday winter weather
Just waiting for work to cancel. Looks like they're holding on until the bitter end.
