Monday winter weather
Just made the drive from Johnston to downtown. 80/35 isn't too bad about 50mph driving. 235 is about 40mph driving but the snow is deep in places. It doesn't look like any plows have been out. Overall no too bad.

I looked out my window earlier. It looks like more than 1".

Re: Monday winter weather
Did I totally miss where we were supposed to get more than a trace or so? I guess I haven't paid much attention to the weather since Friday, but they weren't predicting this then.

Re: Monday winter weather
I think this turned out to be a little worse than they expected, but still seems to look worse than it is due to all the blowing. Probably IS worse in rural areas, but 80/35 in town was relatively clear. A lot of drifting on local streets but the snow is pretty light and fluffy.

Re: Monday winter weather
I'm hoping that around 19 inches suddenly fall at 8 PM, just in time to cancel work tonight, and be paid to stay home
It looks like 2ish inches in our parking lot in Ames right now, but I'm not real good at this stuff. Which probably makes me qualified to be a weatherman.

Re: Monday winter weather
Streets in Indianola are solid ice. Seems like 4 inches would be right by my driveway. I'm moving to the Florida Keys. -

Re: Monday winter weather
I left my home in Ankeny, streets looked great, saw several city plows just within Ankeny. Decided to take the freeway to work on the southside and the interstate was moving good as well.
Got off 235 on the on ramp to MLK, Good God, from there onto work, I swear, the main road going to and from the airport (MLK & Fleur) hasn't seen a plow....embarrasing and inexcusable. I probably would've been to work 20 minutes ago if I would've just went down 14th street.

Re: Monday winter weather
70th in Grimes was simply zero visibility this morning. 141 was better, but I was tempted to turn around once I hit 70th.

Re: Monday winter weather
Boy, 235 must have improved greatly since about 7:00 because when I was on it (westbound) only two lanes didn't have about 3 inches of snow covering them and everyone was driving 25-30 mph.

Re: Monday winter weather
Gotta love these predictable weather forecasts. Last night at 10pm we were only supposed to get maybe 1/2 inch. Wake up this morning to around 4!

Re: Monday winter weather
Hwy 30 around Ames was pretty bad. Several cars in the ditch.

Re: Monday winter weather
They are saying that today is one of the worst days of the winter. I don't think I had much more than 2.5 inches at my home in WDM though.
235 coming in from the west wasn't bad, but traffic was slow. I have a feeling it was pretty icy though, so if we could have picked up speed there probably would have been problems.
My exit into downtown hadn't seen a plow and was EXTREMELY slick. Only about 2 cars could get through on the green light, so I sat through about 6 lights. The downtown streets were also terrible....deep snow.

Re: Monday winter weather
I-35 from north of Ankeny to the Elkhart exit was the worst condition of road I have ever drove on. Combination of light dusting of snow with 30-40 MPH west winds was making me and everyone around me fishtail like crazy.
