Tuesday winter weather
Supposed to be better later this morning (winter weather advisory for blowing snow until 10am).
North Central road updates:
I-35 still closed from Ames to MN border (media reports)
US 18 closed from Mason City to Garner (media reports)
US 69 5 semis in ditches between Garner and Forest City, down to one-half lane in spots (called into KIOW-FM)
US 69 impassible between Forest City and Lake Mills due to 250 foot long drift (live call to KGLO-AM, caller talked to plow driver while on air, and caller said that the plow turned around)

Re: Tuesday winter weather
Roads closed, pipes frozen, albinos...virtually invisible. The National Weather Service has upgraded Springfield's blizzard from "Winter Wonderland" to a "Class 3 Kill-Storm"!
And I don't like the sound of that Class 3.

Re: Tuesday winter weather
The reports from people who are coming into work this morning sound like the roads are fine if you take your time. -

Seems like it should be a lot better today.

Re: Tuesday winter weather
The electronic signs on 35/80 said I-35 closed North of Ames... I couldn't believe that because I was on dry pavement. Obviously it's much worse in rural areas.

Seems like it should be a lot better today. You must be important if everything starts at your apartment. Iowa cannot function if we don't get CycloneErik to work -

Re: Tuesday winter weather
My boss called this morning and told me to work from home, so I don't have to drive anywhere -

True, plus they still need to clean up parts of that pile-up that happened yesterday around Latimer. Reports are still as few as 15 vehicles and as many as 40.
Work intially delayed until 9am, then cancelled for hourly, with salery supposed to show up at 9. This means I'm at the coffee shop.
Just looked up and I see a rainbow.

Re: Tuesday winter weather
has anyone heard anything about I80 east of DSM? I am traveling this afternoon from DSM to Cedar Rapids and want to know if I should expect major delays.
I have checked the DOT site, it says road conditions are difficult, upgraded from travel not advised this morning. Any insight as to if that will keep improving?
TIA
