Cell Phone Taxes

Having recently moved to the Chicago area about 6 months ago, I am about to get off my parents' family plan and go on my own plan. I am keeping my 641 number but my billing address will be my Illinois address. So, the question is: Do the cell phone taxes and fees go according to your phone number or your billing address?
I have heard that the cell phone taxes over here can be pretty high. So, if they go by my billing address I might just have my bill sent over to my parents instead, so that it's like I am living back in Iowa and I am paying less tax.

Not sure about your question, but I can confirm that cell phone tax in Chicago is very high. When you add them all up they seem to be around 25%.

That's about what I've heard as well. I don't live in the city, but the SW suburbs, so I wonder how much different it will be.
I found the answer to my own question after searching around on the internet, it sounds like if they have people like me (different area code than your billing address) then they ask you where you will be spending most of your time.

I'm sure it might be less in the SW suburbs, but then it also might depend on if you are still in Cook County.

I'm sure that helps. You may want to see how much difference it will be and if it is worth the hassle and what is allowed. I hate cell phone taxes in the city.

Yeah, I think I'm just going to wait until I get my first bill and see if its really a huge difference. But, if its a few dollars, then I really couldn't care less.
Cell phone taxes suck... period. They are kind of like the court costs and surcharges on a traffic ticket. :no:
