Ankeny Golf
I know this is a little premature since golf is still a few months away, but I was wondering where those who live in Ankeny typically play? Is the new Otter Creek nice? I know Briarwood where I have played previously went private. Anyone hear how that went for them? Anyone a member there or Ankeny country club? TIA.

Re: Ankeny Golf
Otter Creek is a completely different golf course now due to the renovations. The clubhouse and practice facility are excellent and the course is much improved. I played last year and the course was in good shape but still needs a bit of maturity and growth time.

Briarwood has probably never been the same since a certain group had an outing there last year. -
Re: Ankeny Golf
Iowa State owns the best public course in the area. At least thats what ive heard 1,000's of times.

Been a member at Ankeny Golf and Country Club for a year. Really enjoy it. Not your stereo-typical "country club" as everybody is genuinely nice and come from all walks of life. The old saying around there is something like "we built a bar and a golf course popped up around it", or something like that . Very social atmosphere.

Yeah, I was always shocked how pricey it was, especially for students... I also HATE the layout, but thats another thing...
As for Otter, love it! The new layout is great and its already in pretty solid shape. I haven't heard anything about Briarwood since it went Private but I can't imagine it's going well for them. I had heard Ankeny CC was tough to get on and overcrowded so maybe there is a demand for a second private club but I dont see it...

Re: Ankeny Golf
We played nine at Otter Creek, and I thought it was a beast. I'm by no means a good, or even average golfer, for that matter. I think I probably lost 20 balls in the first four holes. Lots of trouble to the left for a "pull hitter"...

That course kicked my *** all over hell and back last year. I'll probably play it again at the end of March at the discount price this year. Was an absolute blast...minus the few water hazards I found...one of which I hit out of (my roommate can attest). -
Re: Ankeny Golf
Briarwood is ok but i prefer AGCC even though it only has 9 holes. Great people at AGCC, I like the mature trees and tuf greens. I also prefer new otter over Briarwood. Just have to make sure to hit the ball straight (always a task). Briarwood seems to have inconsistant green speeds but a nice course.

I like the new Otter Creek, but I wish the old one was still around too.
