I have an old friend who might be moving to the DSM area and eh is asking advice about an agent. Any suggestions? He is looking in the Ankeny or Waukee areas. I live in Ames and amnot sure my Ames agent would eb the best answer.
Ankeny is fine. If he wants to be out west I would strongly recommend Clive or WDM, or even Urbandale over Waukee. In addition to bing close to everything the taxes are lower. If he wants to be in Waukee schools he still can be while being in those cities. Although the tax savings would be less then as the school portion is also still higher I believe for Waukee.
An agent is a crapshoot. The big thing is if you get one you dont like, switch. You dont owe them anything (Your friend, you, anyone for that matter).

I am not sure where you get your info on Waukee taxes, I live here and have around a 200k house and my taxes are $3400/year. I have been looking at a lot of houses around and they are mostly the same if not higher in other places.
The Waukee city tax levey is higher than any of the 4 other towns I mentioned. I think the schools are as well but I'm not as sure. The difference isnt likely to break the bank but its there nevertheless.

That's about typical for the burbs. Des Moines metro is higher though.
I would be more than happy to recomment our Agent. Helped us purchase our house and continued to work with us even when the other realtor made it very clear he would not make any money. Thought that was very classy.
