Best Buy
I have to admit that I've never really been a big fan of BB but I can't believe how crappy some of their stores have become. I just got back from the 35th st Best Buy.
#1 Who would buy a treadmill from BB and why do they carry them?
#2 Everything is a mess. Either the shelf is completely bare or mis-labeled. They have an end cap for Vondage that has about 3 inches of dust on it.
#3 And the worst part, their prices. I was considering upgrading my powerline ethernet kit. Best buy had the kit for $179 while Amazon and New Egg have it for $130. $50 more. I can understand $10 or $20 more for this type of product but $50.
There is my rant for the day.

Re: Best Buy
The only thing I really like to go to Best Buy for is their cheap DVD's. They usually have some good movies in the $5-7 range.

Re: Best Buy
The only thing I ever get from BB is the blu-ray/dvd combo movie of the week. Not sure why anyone would actually shop there anymore.

There is my rant for the day. They will match prices, including online retailers. The reward zone program is what keeps me coming back, though I do comparison shop online prior to going then have BB match the price when needed. We may be lucky around here but the closest BB is very well kept and still only a few years old.

Re: Best Buy
Friend of mine got a Samsung 52-inch LCD from a Best Buy (not the one in Ames) a few weeks ago. He paid under $1,000 for it after taxes. I looked online for the same TV and the lowest price I could find was $1,189 before taxes. I guess it depends on who you know (my friend had a friend with him who knew the sales clerk) and what Best Buy you shop at. I know I've looked at cables in Best Buy that were priced at $120 and I could have gotten the same cables for $40 online. They are just outrageous on cables, but seemingly reasonable on other things in my experience.

I've been to some where they don't have much, but some others have a lot to choose from. Last weekend I stopped by the Best Buy in Bolingbrook, IL and picked up Out Cold, Alpha Dog, and Super Troopers and each one was only $5.
I guess it also depends on what kind of movies you like.

Re: Best Buy
There are 2 Best Buy stores in my area.
One is always neat, organized, and I must say their sales people hustle!
The only looks like a dump. Still goes to show that a good store manager can do wonders.
That being said I usually go only if I need something right away. Most anything I would buy there I usually just buy online. But if there is a store that I still enjoy just roaming around in, it's a good Best Buy store.

Re: Best Buy
I liked it about 10 years ago when we had Ultimate Electronics and a few others that competed with BB.

Re: Best Buy
They are convienent...
I buy a few things there every now and then. I did get one of their Insignia HDTV's last summer for my bedroom. The reviews on it were good, got a good deal on it and have been pleased with it. Lot of bang for the buck relative to some of the main brands and couldn't touch anything like that on the internet for what I bought it for.
They are a lot different animal than what they were 20 years ago however. I bought by first TV out of college at Best Buy in Urbandale. It was quite a store back then with a ton of deals.

Re: Best Buy
The Best Buy near me in the Hancock Center is really nice...but that's because a few million people a year are on Michigan Ave probably.

Thank you scottdsimon Thanks to my wife and her vacuum (and no thanks to my Monster $55 surge protector ), I lost the front three channels on my Denon. Repair bill estm from American (where I bought it) is $302. Thanks for the link dmclone. It may make more sense buying new.
