Long time user of MS Money. Of course, they're getting out of the market. Been using QuickenOnline - which is okay at best. But it has issues, their tech support is non-existant, and worst of all it doesn't really allow for investments or retirement type accounts.
Tried Quicken Premier 2010 - which is a complete POS.
So I ask the community here - suggestions? I prefer desktop software. Not all that crazy about hosting my info online, but open to it if the product works well enough.
Looking for standard banking needs - checking, savings, credit cards. Plus 401K, Roth, and some stock tracking. Budgeting utility is nice, but not really a "must". Reporting is pretty important - use that for basic reporting come tax time.
TIA.
Edit: I know about Mint.com. They're now part of Quicken - so I don't expect much for their future. Plus, they don't have my bank as part of their service so they're not really a viable solution. Actually, they're on their list (right web address and all), but it doesn't work. Reported it to tech support back in September and they haven't so much as given me an update, much less fix it. Remind them about monthly. Gave up last month. Apparently the Quicken mindset has taken hold - and they've killed off any semblence of customer service.
I'm a little old fashioned and do that all by hand. I just don't like the thought of someone potentially getting access.
Throw in the fact, my activity is fairly low, so not that many transactions. I put most of my bills on a credit card so get an itemized statement for that and pay one big check and month end for everything.
Yes. I try to use stuff like that when I recommend it. Like any GPL program, the software is free but it sometimes takes some fiddling to get it to work in the manner you'd like it to work.
It has the feel of an older version of quicken or money (you know - functional).
It can automatically download stock information after a bit of set up and the reports are fine.
Asteroids are nature's way of asking "How's that space program going?"
