Hotels in Mexico - Hotels in Dominican Republic - Hotels in Cancun - Hotels in Mayan Riviera - Barcelo.com
I have used this site twice. Went to mayan riveira and puerto vallarta for all inclusive vacations. Well within your budget, probably cheaper. Great experience. Great hotels. Show up and put your wallet in the safe.

My Sister-in-law just got back from her Honeymoon in the Dominican and it was literally like 5 days after the earthquake and during one of the big aftershocks and she said that they didn't even feel the quake and had an absolute blast.
She highly reccomended it.

I wonder if the $20 trick would work on cops when you hand them your license?

Worked out ok I guess, I mean I got a decent bed (kind of small) and 3 square meals a day, only thing that I can complain about was the room was kind of small and bare, and the room service sucked, but hey it only cost me 20 bucks

TI's not bad. We stayed there our first time in Vegas a couple years ago. Our biggest issue with it was that it was so far north, made for long walks to see the things we wanted to see. The hotel was fairly quite, especially compared to our stay at NYNY last April. There weren't as many places to eat/shop in the hotel, but overall not bad. I believe there is a bus stop in front of Mirage and one in front of the mall on the other side of the street, so a short walk could get you to a bus if you have far to go.
When we got to TI, the *** in front of us demanded an upgrade, but the hotel was pretty busy and they didn't have much available. The lady at the counter wouldn't do anything for him. When we got up there, we joked around with her about it, said 'please' and she upgraded us to a Strip view. Room was nice and we didn't even have to any pay extra for it. All it took was an idiot yelling at her and us sympathizing with her.

Re: $20 hotel tip trick
Great thread. I'll respond to the OP, as well as to a few other nuggets that popped up along the way.
I'm a Vegas addict and average 6-7 trips a year, usually half for work. I've used the $20 trick and it has worked to varying degrees every time. Usually it bumps you up to a strip view or larger room. A few times it has resulted in very cool suites. The site referenced in the OP also gives you the % of time it has worked at various hotels. Some are easier than others, but it's worth the try.
I also recommend checking into the poker room rate for those who will be playing anywhere from 4-6 hours per day. A list of the rooms which offer rates can be found at www.allvegaspoker.com. Great site for Vegas planning in general, not just poker.
Last, Vegas isn't too bad in August if you are doing the pool thing. For honeymoon, getting a cabana would be a great idea as it's easy to keep cool. I agree that walking the strip mid day will be pretty warm though.

Re: $20 hotel tip trick
TI is in the bottom half the hotels on the strip. Rooms are small, bathrooms suck, and it's just an ok hotel overall. Originally Posted by MNCyGuy That is also why I thought Vegas might be fun, but if it's going to be miserable to be out walking the strip, that would suck. I don't want to feel stuck inside all day either. It's really not that bad. The girls tend to wear less in the heat. You do go outside, but you don't tend to just walk the strip outside for hours and hours. You go in/out of hotels all the time. You can carry a beer or whatever around with you outside and drink.

Re: $20 hotel tip trick
To the OP, my wife and I went to San Francisco for our honeymoon back in Aug of 2003. Stayed in a really nice place just off Market St near the financial district. There's tons of places to visit, touristy and not, great restaurants, wine country is not far if you're into that.
Something different than the standard cruise/lay on a beach type honeymoons.
