Here Comes the New Light Bulbs Project
Girl Scouts aim to replace 63,000 light bulbs with compact fluorescent models - washingtonpost.com
"...to the members of the Girl Scout Council of the Nation's Capital, it's no laughing matter. The group has challenged its 63,000 members, ages 5 to 17, to each replace one regular light bulb with an energy-saving bulb. The project has just begun, and already troops from the District, Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia have changed nearly 1,000 bulbs. Some girls have changed far more than their share."

Not a bad thing until they break one and need a hazmat team to clean it up. -
Re: Here Come the New Light Bulbs Project
I put two in my front lights and havent changed them in 2 years. They dont give off a weird glow either. Good for them. Saves energy regardless of opinion. Someday something better will come along, but until then, why not.

Re: Here Come the New Light Bulbs Project
I have serious issues with these new bulbs. They don't last as long as advertised which makes the price prohibitive. What the heck do you do with them when they do burn out?

Save em up and find a local handler for them. Call your landfill first. They usually know. Sioux City has a pretty good recycling program for hazardess household stuff.

What the heck do you do with them when they do burn out? My wife and I had troubles with the main light fixture in our living room. We were going through standard bulbs at a rate of about 1 every other month. Finally replaced them with the energy saving kind. That was nearly two years ago. Haven't had to change them once.

Re: Here Comes the New Light Bulbs Project
I replaced 6 flood lights in our kitchen with this new CFL's. They take about 30 seconds but once they get going they are BRIGHT. Plus I have to think that this is a pretty big energy savings since we have them on so often. of course after a month one has already burned out :(

Re: Here Comes the New Light Bulbs Project
Just make sure the mercury inside the bulbs does not end up in your carpets.

Re: Here Comes the New Light Bulbs Project
So far, I've replaced my kitchen, living room and bathroom bulbs with the fluorescent bulbs. The light they produce is MUCH better than the standard bulbs.
