Re: Mattress - Recommendations for places to purchase
Midwest Mattress has locations in Ankeny, Urbandale and Southridge. They beat the hell out of most other stores prices and have a great selection of quality stuff. I like the latex mattresses for feel and the resistance to dust and mite problems.
Nothing to see here mods. Keep moving. -

I don't know what your budget is, but when I was at ISU I had a Lebeda and they were actually very good and not overly expensive. They have a Des Moines location I'm pretty sure.
As far as mattresses go, I have a Simmons BeautyRest and love it. That's the mattress where they take the bowling ball and drop it to show it doesn't affect the rest of the bed too much.

I will second that the Sleep Number bed is one of the worst that I've ever slept on. Radison hotels now have them, so you can try one out for around $100 if you were serious about that bed.

Re: Mattress - Recommendations for places to purchase
We had a Select Comfort mattress for 12 years and loved it until my wife went to the doctor for her allergy symptoms a month ago. The nurse asked her if she had a Select Comfort mattress. My wife called me from the doctor's office and told me to unzip the foam cover and look for mold. What I saw was sickening! The foam cover and the air bladders were covered in mold! My wife is allergic to mold, and we have been sleeping on this thing for years! The company has had many complaints about this, we have found, and offered to send us a replacement mattress at no charge. They claim that they have been treating their components with an anti-mold treatment since 2005, and haven't had any complaints since then, but I doubt this. Think they should have issued a recall or warning at the very least. May have a class action lawsuit. BEWARE...

Re: Mattress - Recommendations for places to purchase
I bought a mattress at American Furniture and Appliance. I picked outa king size one and paid $600 for it. We drove around to the warehouse pickup to load it up, and the guy brought out a mattress that was clearly not the one we payed for. I told him, "That's not our mattress." So he called the sales desk and told them the situation. As he talked on the phone, I inspected the mattress and determined it to be a better one than I had chosen. So, I interrupted him on the phone and said, "We'll take this one!" He said the barcode matched our ticket and the salesman told him to go ahead and load it up then.
After loading the bed into my truck, I ran inside to find out which bed we actually received. It was a $1250 bed. Heck of a deal only paying $600. So, go to American because they mess up for the good of the customer. -

Anyone have recommendations as to where to puchase a mattress in DSM? I have a Restonic and your mom seems to enjoy it. -
