Re: Marshalltown Maid-Rite Owner Protests State Ruling
[quoteI've never found one as good as the Marshalltown one. That and Taco Johns are the only good things about Marshalltown. Besides me of course:) ][/quote]
Yeah but you have to be a man in order to eat there since they are poisoining there food.
Nobody but HB knows for sure. You pretty much know nothing....like Knownothing would like to say.

Re: Marshalltown Maid-Rite Owner Protests State Ruling
I have eaten there for over 40 years and see no reason to change.
There are plenty of "illegal" things in Marshalltown that the government could look into.

I'll give the maidrite in the Kaleidoscope 3 months before it closes. No one eats there except during state tournament time.

This may be a blessing in disguise for the Marshalltown store. I'm willing to bet their sales will go up with all the press.

Re: Marshalltown Maid-Rite Owner Protests State Ruling
They've gone 80 years without any recorded issues. In my opinion it sounds like they have some pretty good procedures in place to hold a track record like that. There are restaurants that have equipment less than five years old that probably have multiple incidents with the health department. Old equipment shouldn't be the issue here, procedures should be, and it sounds like Taylor's Maid Rite is doing something right. Making them replace their stuff is a travisty as far as I am concerned.

You haven't had a maid-rite until you've had one at Taylor's.
Also, any fans of the Canteen in Ottumwa? They cook their meat the same way. They are awesome too.

Re: Marshalltown Maid-Rite Owner Protests State Ruling
I've never understood the appeal of Maid Rite. You're going to take a perfectly good hamburger, shred it into little balls, make it greasy as ****, and cook it in a weird hot water bath? General rule of thumb, if the food looks worse going in than it does going out, I don't eat it. That's the case with maid-rite.
Oh and Jim Zabel endorses them, if that's not enough to make you hate them I don't know what will.

Too many people here are confusing Taylor's Maid-Rite to regular corporate Maid-Rites. If you've never been to Taylor's you have no frame of reference and no dog in this fight.

So where is this place? I may have to try it next time I'm over there for work.

Re: Marshalltown Maid-Rite Owner Protests State Ruling
I'm not sure what the big deal is here... They are mixing cooked meat in with raw meat, which might be ok for you to do at your own private cookout but it's not ok to do when you are running a restaurant. Sorry but they are violating health and safety regulations regardless of if they have ever had any complaints. That's just the way it is, and they knew that going into it.
