Ah, the because I said so argument. Didn't you blast someone in the cave last week for making that same argument?

Re: Marshalltown Maid-Rite Owner Protests State Ruling
I worked in the food service business for 27 years. I really don't see what the problem with their cooking and serving method is. It certainly is not the modern way to do things, but I don't see the health issue.
As long as the meat is held at a proper temp, and they take the necessary measures to avoid contaminants (like stuff dropping into it from above), there really should not be a problem.
As far as having cooked and raw product in the same device....that is not really that much of a problem. It's the same as is done on any grill in any greasy spoon diner, or for that matter, in any high-priced restaurant. You will have finished product and products in various stages of preparation on the grill......so.....same thing really.
If you really think this is so bad, then let me suggest to you that you never, ever visit the kitchen of any restaurant where you eat. You will not like what you see.

It was actually the "because that's the way it is" argument.

I don't think it is a huge deal about how they cook their meat, but it doesn't sound totally safe, so I don't have a problem with what the state is trying to do.
What I do have a problem with is the owners claiming they don't have the money to upgrade the restaurant.
Additionally it really peeves me that you get ridiculed for using freaking ketchup. That is ridiculous.
This is pretty much my opinion on the matter too. Maybe I should have worded it more like you so I wouldn't get blasted by Phaedrus. Some people take sandwiches way too seriously...

A Maid Rite is not just any sandwich.

I saw the story last night on the news on the "rally" in at the resturant and I was thinking to myself that some people have way tooooooooo much time on their hands. All it takes is one person to get sick and it's over for that resturant
Re: Marshalltown Maid-Rite Owner Protests State Ruling
Anyone who has not eaten a Taylor's Maid-Rite has no idea what they are talking about, and should not be commenting on the taste. You cannot compare a Taylor's to any of the chain Maid-Rites, like comparing apples to peanuts.
I grew up near Marshalltown, and had enjoyed them on many occassions. Nothing unhealthy about about the preparation, and as usual the government is worrying about this, when it should be more concerned about the other problem in the M'town.
