Itunes to MP3

I have an Ipod that I have been very happy with and have made many purchases from Itunes. However, I recently got a new smart phone that is running windows mobile. I would like to consolidate my music and my phone into one unit. I don't believe I can play any of my iTunes downloads on my smartphone so I would like to convert them efficienctly as possible to mp3 format. Any suggestions? Obviously, I could burn all of them to a CD and then re-rip them to mp3 but that seems like too many steps. Can anyone recommend a converter that is freeware or another method that I'm overlooking? Or how about running iTunes on Window Mobile? Is that possible?

If they are non-protected files you should be able to do it right in Itunes. Right click on one of the songs and choose "convert to MP3".

The protected ones are a little harder to convert but there is software out there that will do it.

I don't see "Convert to MP3 on any of my downloads. I see convert to AAC.

I think Soundtaxi will converted them in one big batch should you want to. The software is fairly cheap. It takes the DRM out of it.

As always, there is a free one out there, but this is a quality app.

Sorry, I blew up my motherboard last week so I can't see Itunes but I was thinking that there was an option that said something like "create MP3 version". Maybe that's only on certain types.

Are they currently in AAC format?

YOu should be able to select and right click then convert to MP3, but if it's only giving the option to convert to AAC they must already be in some other format.

Don't buy from Apple. Then it's not an issue.

By the letter of the law, any attempt to remove the DRM is illegal, so your only legal alternative is to re-buy them DRM-free. Thank you Apple.

By the letter of the law, you're supposed to pay Iowa sales tax for any internet purchases too, though.

There's software that will do it, but the easiest, and probably the least shady, is to burn them to a CD and re-rip it.

Start buying your music from amazon mp3. Their files are not protected so you have more flexability with them.

I'm not sure about the Windows version of iTunes, but if you go into the preferences you should see an "Import Settings" or something similar somewhere (for me it's in the General tab). This sets up how you import the files from ripping a CD. It also sets up how the default "Create AAC version" or "Create MP3 version" works. So try finding that and setting it to MP3.
