Kids playing, learning baseball don't need.....
Batting Cages
Under Armour- of any kind
Eye Black
a bat bag- or more than one bat
a bigger sense of self entitlement than they have already been given
a stop watch for 40 times
A 40ft SUV to haul them, their equipment, and parents to every game possible
an agent
What they might need..
Spanish as a second language
manners or a polite attitude towards adults
a glove
comfortable shoes
1 basic baseball
1 bat, can be shared
an open place to play (yes Nancy, your kids will be ok playing in the street, we did it!)
When I played LL, we had a bat, a crappy field, a drunk coach who pitched BP with a Schlitz in his glove hand, and we had a blast. The thing I loved best, there was not one piece of fn Under Armour anywhere!
Rent The Sandlot and watch it with your kids, if they don't enjoy it, they are SPOILED!

I don't know. My system messes them up. When I do it from home it works fine. At work not so much.
Nobody but HB knows for sure. You pretty much know nothing....like Knownothing would like to say.

I agree with this to a point. Nowadays you have to practice more because the other teams do it. We have to rent inside cages. Otherwise we will get whipped when we get out there.
Other than that I love outside stuff. My child has one bat, one glove and a few balls. We have sweatshirts on when practicing outside. No under armour stuff. We share the bat with others. We use little league equipment for him catching. Use there glove and all. I drive a charger with a master bag full of crap our team needs including catchers gear. Eye black is not needed.

Yeah well my son plays baseball with no glove, a wad of rolled up athletic tape for a ball, one shoe and I drive a Toyota Tercel. Win.

Re: Grown up Softball guy
I bowl in a couple of leagues every year. There are times when I want to go out and work on my game, but last I checked batting cages, just like lanes at a bowling alley, are rented out to customers for money, they all have a right to be there unless they're breaking the rules. Personally, I can't stand the typical young teenage open bowler that meets up with their dumba** friends and does stupid crap on the lanes like throwing the ball between their legs, lofting the ball halfway down the lane, or just plain and simple winging the ball 100mph down the lane just to look cool. But what are you going to do? I mean, I'm the one in league, I have a chance to win money and stuff, those guys are just being tools. But in the end, I guess if the lanes are full, I just plop my butt down at the bar and wait until one opens up.

Rent The Sandlot and watch it with your kids, if they don't enjoy it, they are SPOILED! Given the choice between a kid sporting all those items you mentioned and an adult league player, the adult would be much more ridiculous. Let kids be kids. If they want to emulate the pros by wearing the same gear (I used to take white t-shirts and put my favorite players name and number on them) or using the same equipment, let them. If they want to believe they can be a big league player, let them. Childhood is a time for dreaming. Overcompetitive adults lamenting their missed opportunities by becoming the old-man's league MVP is just plain sad.
As an aside, don't you guys have adult league baseball? If you are going to be over-competitive, you may as well do it with the real game (softball is fun, I'm not a softball hater).

I can't believe all these parents that push their kids to hit INDOORS. Baseball is an outdoor game. Quit forcing your kids... I am embarrassed for you.

I like your points. I hate when little kids wear Under Armour. So dumb. However, the occasional eye black looks kind of cool. I did it on occasion because Mark Grace did it, and he was my favorite player.

What are you, the bowling alley code enforcer? If they do something to harm the lane then call them on it. If they are just doing stupid stuff that doesn't hurt anybody except the over-sensative adult that is serious about their bowling, then who cares? Lofting I can understand somebody saying something. But, seriously, you are offended that they throw the ball between their legs? You had your chance to be a kid. Let them have their time.

How about adults in softball leagues who wear under armour, eye black and baseball pant, I like to play softball and dont mind being competitive, but some people are downright embarrassing...

Translation.. You are an adult who still has dreams of professional softball. You could not make it in baseball so you are trying to live your dreams out no in softball league. You take it serious. You tell your stats to your friends at the bar and expect them to be impressed with them (Even though they lob the ball). You have no children to teach the game to at all and have never had to teach a kid who has the same look I had as a kid trying to learn the game. You probably have a goatee on your face. You probably have a pair of baseball pants that you put on before you go hit. Just so you look more rediculous and more like the guys in big league baseball. Even though once again you are hit lob balls. So good luck to you. If you think I am being harsh on you then go ahead and look at what you were saying about me. Otherwise.. Good luck this year. I am sure you and your serious team of softball guys can get around and crack some balls while the rest of us are at the diamond drinking beer and having fun playing softball. You show them though. You are softball guy. Please PM me your stats from last year as I am very interested in them. I am sure you have Ted Williams type numbers.
