Sorry to hear that. Keep your head up youll be fine.
MC, this may not be up your alley, but our company is hiring right now. There are even temporary positions open that can last up to a year and allows you to be employed but not committed in case something else comes along.
PM if you're intersted.....it is more IT work, than insurance.
Sorry to hear that, I firmly believe if you are salary you should plan to leave each Friday by 3:00 to avoid the Friday end of the day firing...that way you miss out on being fired plus get another week's worth of work in until the next friday for them to try and fire you again.
Possibly a well balanced diet also.
Peter Gibbons: You're gonna lay off Samir and Michael?
Bob Slydell: Oh yeah, we're gonna bring in some entry-level graduates, farm some work out to Singapore, that's the usual deal.
Bob Porter: Standard operating procedure.
Peter Gibbons: Do they know this yet?
Bob Slydell: No. No, of course not. We find it's always better to fire people on a Friday. Studies have statistically shown that there's less chance of an incident if you do it at the end of the week.

I would suggest filing unemployment right away and if you get severence/vacation payout, talk with IWD before filing your weekly benefits for those weeks, in order to avoid a bill for them over paying you 7 months down the road!
I guess what I'm trying to say is keep your chin up, it may suck in the short-run, but long-term it may be a blessing.
My cousin got laid off several years ago and in his severance agreement, his former employer made him check in every week to verify if he was still unemployed and the second he found a new job, the severance payments stopped. Not to mention he couldn't draw unemployment and severance at the same time. Thankfully, my wife's severance agreement didn't have these clauses.
Secondly, get set up on websites like career builder.com or monster.com. Job Service requires a minimum of two contacts per week and with the internet age, you can look for a job and send out resumes without leaving the house.
Finally, even though it may suck right now, but enjoy the time off as I think my wife is enjoying the time off. Sounds like by mid week, it's supposed to be really nice out, so do something fun outside.
Good luck to ya!
