No Shock Here.....
HB named National Player Of The Year. Not a shock to anyone but a pretty good read though. MaxPreps.com National Player of the Year: Iowa's Harrison Barnes - MaxPreps News -
Re: No Shock Here.....
Thanks for the link - great article on a great young man. Sounds like he's planning to be at Chapel Hill for three years.
Here's a kid who's doesn't need prep school for remedial academics, doesn't need a posse of hangers-on for coaches to go recruit through, and is courteous and kind to everyone he meets.
Good luck HB!

That was a really good article. This guy is going to do really, really well. And he's a good guy from most accounts.

Re: No Shock Here.....
I really liked the part about his sacrificial loyalty to self, community, and state . . I am sure every Carolina fan agrees.

“I’m going to graduate in three years and want to win a national championship and leave a legacy, have my number retired and in the rafters like all the past stars at UNC,” Barnes said.

Re: No Shock Here.....
I know Barnes is a great young man and phenomenal player, and with all the connections it's a shame things didn't work out so he would end up at ISU. I can understand he wants to play for a national contender, though I think we saw this year that even UNC can be mediocre. But I still have a bad taste in my mouth from showtime at Ames high when he anounced his committment, and imo did it in a way that was sort of in your face to GMac and ISU.

I still hate the way he did the announcement.
As far as a national title contender, I truly think that he could have picked any school, and that team becomes an instant title contender.

Re: No Shock Here.....
CycloneEric-I agree, and maybe it's a little picky but I'd say Barnes could take any average team and make it into an instant national title contender. I'd say LaBron James could have taken even a bad team and turned them into an instant title contender.

True...but if your aiming to build a brand and want to be compared to MJ in the future, you have to follow in MJ's footsteps and win a title at his old school. I don't wish the kid ill will or good luck. He did great things for Ames High, but nothing for ISU. I cheer for ISU, so don't care at this point what he does.

I'll be stunned if UNC doesn't spend most or all of next year in the top 5. That guy is going to take them pretty far.
