Can a CF fan help me out? I would go for Big Steer out in Altoona, especially if you want to stay in the DSM area. I've always found the steaks I get there just as good, if not better, than Rubes.
Also, don't know if it got mentioned because I didn't read the whole thread, but you can have Rubes cook your steak as well as grilling it yourself.

I usually do not like it when people say this, but Monkey is very interesting...

It's The place I would go and I know alittle better then these yahoos above me. I raise the wonderful animals. GO BEEF!
There are not alot of things better on this earth then a perfectly grilled steak. +10000000
Forget 801 (expensive and the crowd is way too upity) and Rube's (as Al said, why the **** pay money to cook your own steak unless you're doing it on your own grill...doesn't make sense to me).
Big Steer is the place to be if you want greatness.

That's pretty messed up. I used to love Iowa Beef, the Latin King and the Pink Poodle in Crescent.

People wait an hour in line to eat a microwaved steak at a damn chain. Bunch of lemmings. I'll give you the cinnamon butter, but it's about the last place I'd go for a steak in Des Moines. Or anywhere, for that matter. Originally Posted by Mr. Janny Is that place still open? Des Moines' must be much worse than Davenport's, because ours is actually fairly good. I'm not saying it competes with anything from a really good steakhouse, but for whatever reason the complaints that I hear from the experiences of those that live in/near Des Moines just don't jibe with my experiences here.
