Re: Mixed Drinks
Chivas and water or just Chivas on the rocks.
But for an affordable drink in college can't go wrong with Captain and Coke.

Big fan of quality whiskey/Bourbon Now you're talking. Though I don't mind plain old Jack on the Rocks either.

Re: Mixed Drinks
I haven't had a soda in years so that makes things pretty difficult for mixed drinks. Lemonade and orange juice are usually what I put in everything but that is getting old. I will probably use some of these suggestions.

Re: Mixed Drinks
anyone else tried the new Crown Royal Black? It's so ******* good.
Don't confuse hope for a plan. -
Re: Mixed Drinks
Captain and Coke is always my stand by. If you're in Ames, my favorite place to go is Welch Ave. Station. I like their "****** off Japanese minnow farmer" and their "traveling wildebeest." They sound funny but they are pretty tasty!!

And to the OP: Crown Press (Crown, water, splash of 7up) or my newest favorite Firefly Sweet Tea vodka (1 part Firefly, 2 or 3 parts water depending on how strong you like it)

Re: Mixed Drinks
This isn't really a drink, but...vodka mixed with apple sauce makes for a great snack at a party. A friend of mine came across this little concoction this past weekend.
Don't dog this until you try it. If you like apple sauce you will be pleasantly surprised.

Haven't done Crown Royal Black but a regular Crown and Coke it really good. I've been drinking Johnny Walker Red Label and Black label here lately with diet coke. Love the charcoal or smokey taste. I've heard there's a Blue label but it runs ~$30/shot.
A few of my other favorites, regular margarita on the rocks topped with some grand marnier - very tastey and very likely to get you crosseyed, Benidictine and Brandy - better know as B&B, and tequila sunrises with breakfast while tailgating. Straight shots of good tequila, something like Don Juilo or Cabo Wabo.
All done in moderation.
You can have it Fast, Cheap, Reliable.....Please pick TWO! -

Evan Williams is a pretty cheap whiskey that is very drinkable.

Re: Mixed Drinks
Kansas City ice water. Delicious.
3/4 oz gin
3/4 oz vodka
1/2 oz lime juice
7-Up
Toss in a splash of triple sec if you want.

The apple sauce we had was somewhat runny to, so we were able to drink it. About 15 poeple tried it and everyone enjoyed it.

I've been around bars for many years. Here's my suggestion. DO NOT DRINK AND DRIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've never had an OWI/DUI but deserved one many, many times. The dynamics today are totally different from my day of bar to bar drinking. The cops and society have no tolerance for drinking and driving. Spend money on a taxi. Please. I'm still a drinker, I just really have no time for drinking and driving.

As for me...usually Captain/Coke or beer. Sometimes I'll switch to Jameson or scotch - but the next time you have a gathering of >10 people...
1.) Collect $5 from everybody
2.) Purchase a 1.75 of gin from a liquor store
3.) Purchase a bucket, 2-L of Squirt, 2-L of Sprite, 3 lemons, 3 limes, and a "thingy" of Country Time lemonade mix
4.) Pour liquids and Country Time mix in bucket. Add ice and stir.
5.) Quarter lemons/limes and squeeze into bucket
6.) Form circle with friends
7.) Gin-Gin Pass until bucket is empty
