On State Street in that Area there's about a minute's drive difference between 18th and 36th, especially where the open land is on the north side of 18th and south side of 36th.
AJK4ST8- Don't worry, elementary school #9 (I believe that's the correct #) Will be right in your backyard. Not sure when the construction starts.
If they stay on schedule, my youngest will get to enjoy their junior, and senior year as an Ankeny Centennial Jaguar, and I will get to pay for it for many, many years.
Not to take this thread completely off track, but does anyone have any recommendations for a good one bedroom apartment in the Ankeny area? That **** is just about impossible to find online!
As far as I know, the plan is still 18th and State for the 2nd high school. I don't think that has changed. I live about a stones throw from there.
According to Ankeny's website it is still going to be at State and NW 36th st. Which is why I asked the question
City of Ankeny : FAQs
I'm pretty sure the last I heard they were building one main stadium for sports (football, soccer track etc.) Not sure about all sports tho.
3/12/10 school board minutes:
E. Naming of High Schools
Dr. Matthew Wendt distributed a handout reporting on a survey that was taken concerning the naming of the high schools and he reported on those results. Dr. Wendt then recommended that the name of Ankeny High School be retained for the high school built in Prairie Trail and that Ankeny Centennial High School be the name of the high school to be built on 18th and State Street. On a motion by Director Johnson and seconded by Director Petersen, it was: RESOLVED: The Board approve naming the second new high school to be located at 18th and State Streets, Ankeny Centennial High School as presented. Directors voting in favor of the motion: Johnson, Murphy, Petersen, Shafer, Cahill, Tracy and Martin. Directors voting no: none. Motion carried 7-0.
As far as Elementary #9 goes, i'd be stunned if voters ever approve it. If it feeds the North high school, the south part of town won't vote for it and vice versea if it's feeds the south high school.
Welcome to the world of the have's and have not's, that's what Ankeny is going to turn into with a 2 high school town.
I don't think this school board has done a lot of sound thinking on this whole project. The price per square foot for this school in comparison to others being built is almost 40% higher. They are out of touch, and doing a lot to create the bad feelings being manifested in the city.
As I recall, the big issue with the State & 18th location was that they had to buy a bunch more land to have enough room for everything they wanted - which they're apparently in the process of doing.
