    E. Naming of High Schools

Dr. Matthew Wendt distributed a handout reporting on a survey that was taken concerning the naming of the high schools and he reported on those results. Dr. Wendt then recommended that the name of Ankeny High School be retained for the high school built in Prairie Trail and that Ankeny Centennial High School be the name of the high school to be built on 18th and State Street. On a motion by Director Johnson and seconded by Director Petersen, it was: RESOLVED: The Board approve naming the second new high school to be located at 18th and State Streets, Ankeny Centennial High School as presented. Directors voting in favor of the motion: Johnson, Murphy, Petersen, Shafer, Cahill, Tracy and Martin. Directors voting no: none. Motion carried 7-0.
Looks like 18th and State it is. Thanks for digging this info up

Does it seem weird to anyone else that while these new schools are being built, teachers are being laid off? Can Ankeny afford teachers for these new schools? Can't wait to see my property taxes sky rocket.

Don't live in Ankeny, but am I the only one who thinks that is odd - "Ankeny High" and "Ankeny Centennial High?"
What's wrong with "Ankeny North" and "Ankeny South?" There would be a lot less confusion...

    Sounds like the DSM schools

Also FWIW I believe it was stated that if they went the "North" "South" route then any Ankeny sports records titles etc. from the past would not carry over and sports traditions would start over for both schools. And if you know anything about Ankeny they must have their sports!
