    Laptop battery question

My laptop battery died after only 14 months of use. I have an HP DV6700, and I can order a replacement battery from HP for $130. According to the reviews on the HP website, 12-18 months seems to be the maximum lifespan of this battery, and $130 seems to be a ripoff for such a short-lived battery. Amazon has a bunch of low-priced knockoffs ($30-60), but I have heard some comments that you shouldn't buy knockoff batteries due to compatibility/quality issues.

Does anyone have any experience with non-OEM batteries, good or bad? The price difference seems too great to justify a OEM HP battery that seems to be junk.

I bought a non-OEM battery last year for my son's HP lap top. Still going strong.

    Re: Laptop battery question

I bought one for my daughter's HP laptop from Overstock.com. It would not hold a charge for 5 minutes. At least they accepted the return and I was given a full reimbursement. I then ordered one from Acer notebook battery, Laptop computer batteries, Wireless Baby Monitors, Wireless Headphones - Agptek.com and it works great.

    Re: Laptop battery question

hp's batteries tend to be pretty low quality it seems, so even if a non-oem one typically isnt as good as OEM, in the case of HP the non-oem quality may be just as good as oem..

Lenmar Replacement Battery for HP Pavilion dv6000/2000 Laptop Computers (LBHP088AA) | StaplesŪ

I've used this brand before as a replacement and it was good for my previous Dell. This is for the 6XXX series laptops. I have a 6500 and the battery went dead within 2 years as well. I run it off the power supply instead.

while on the topic of batteries, if you want something that tracks your battery usage (and time left) a lot better and more accurately than windows does, including tracking the wear on the battery, i like a free program called Batterybar.
