Car Stereo Systems Question
I have trouble getting AM radio to come in on the radio in my truck and would like to find a way to solve the problem. By buying a new stereo system will that do anything for me? Or is the problem probably somewhere else like the antenna etc?
Thanks for the help
Re: Car Stereo Systems Question
Most likely the antenna. Completely changing out the head unit may help but seems like a waste of money. Can you get the blowtorch (1040)?

I can get it within about 30 miles of Des Moines and that is it, can't get any other stations to come in at all. I live about 2 hours away from Des Moines and drive quite a bit, so I would be willing to pay some money for it.
How much does the head unit typically cost?
Re: Car Stereo Systems Question
If you cannot get 1040, you have an antenna problem. I have listened to 1040 in Washington DC before.
Re: Car Stereo Systems Question
Buy an MP3 player or an iPod and a docking transmitter for the car.
Download your favorite radio broadcasts (things like Jan Michealsen @ WHO are free and there are plenty of other free ones to help pass the time) and avoid the advertisements.
Re: Car Stereo Systems Question
You can get a head unti for $100 but that still may not fix your problem.
I assume you can get FM ok? Has your AM always been bad?

FM has always come in fine. AM has been bad since the day I bought it (used).

I'd be willing to bet that there is just some kind of bad connection to the head unit. If I was you I would go to a professional and see what they say. Worse case scenario you're out a couple of hundred but you have a new head unit.
A lot depends on the year/type of your truck and whether you have a nice radio in there now. It used to be that trucks came with crappy radio's but some of the new ones are pretty nice.
