Pawn stars is epic. I record everyone and watch it. Rick has endless knowledge especially for a 10th grade dropout. Chumlee really is an idiot. Watch the videos on history channel.com
The thing that amazes me about Pawn Stars is the bankroll those guys must be running. It's pretty serious for a pawn shop to have the kind of money to throw around to purchase an item that may or may not go back up for sale, and if it does it could be months before a relevant auction comes up.
love american pickers, my english teacher is the tall guys cousin so its grown on me pretty well.
I think people I know are pack rats than I watch Pickers and it makes them look like neat freaks. The worse part is people forget they have the stuff then dont want to sell it. If those guys showed up at my place I would tell them to have at it.
Pawn stars is way staged, you can see them just standing around looking busy, when people walk up to them. It is still a good show and some of the thing people try to sell make you go why or WTF. It fun to see people get ****** when they find out they have fake stuff.
I also find it funny when somebody brings in something that is cool to them or they have personalized it somehow and want a crap load of money for it, and Rick doesn't even want it or offers something really small, they get really mad.
I believe the first weekend of June is 'Picker Days' in LeClaire, IA.
There's a celebration being hosted at their shop. I've been in the shop because I know Mike. He's always turning up stuff that makes me jealous and at prices that make me even more jealous. I've got the middle man involved since I shop at antique stores and estate sales mostly (or ebay.)
I can still get things cheap every now and then. I just bought a motorcycle today for 100 bucks.
I have no problem with them working a sponsor into their show...as I said before, these guys are in business to make money...nothing wrong with that whatsoever.
And the settling of a bet by one taking the other out to dinner on American Pickers wasn't 'scripted'? Again...so what in my opinion.
Both great shows.
PS: With that gravelly voice how many packs a day do you thing Rick smokes?
I don't know if you caught the episode where a guy brought in a home movie of FDR and wanted $90,000 for it...Rick didn't make an offer on it but said if the movie would have shown FDR in his wheelchair he would have paid $90,000 for it on the spot without question.
I guess it's good to have a pawn shop in Vegas...gotta get that bank to go to the casinos...or get some cash to keep eating after the casino takes your bank...so people will sell about anything, apparently.
Chumlee's acting the role of Oddjob the other night was hilarious. When they pair up Chum and Rick it is absolutely must see TV. So far the item that I wish I had from the show is the Kiss Pinball.
I love how they make Chumlee test all the weapons. I also love how they do restoration projects.
I think they've had the shop since the mid 1980s when Rick and the Old Man started it. They've grown to be pretty huge as they make 100s of transactions daily. They are open 24 hours a day.
