Confirmed roadkill: Badger
IF anybody is interested, there is a dead badger about 6-7 miles east of Iowa City on Highway 6. When I first saw it I thought it was just another skunk, for Hwy 6 seems to be littered with dead skunk carcasses. But it was way too big. Hmmm, what a strange looking raccoon, said I, and went on my merry way. Upon returning to the same point on the road a few hours later on my way home, well, i got curious, and yes, I got out of my car to check on a piece of roadkill. Freakin' badger, dude. Not an easy find around here.
Reminds me of the joke: Why did the badger cross the road?
It was stapled to the chicken.

I wouldnt have gotten out of my car in fear he would have came back to life and ripped my arm off. We caught one in a trap once, came and checked it in the AM, couldnt find the trap anywhere but the dirt was all dug up. All of a sudden the dirt starts moving and he came leaping out of the earth like satan. He had burried himself. I may or may not have shat myself...just saying.

I'm sure some Hawk fan will take credit for killing it.
*Rest in peace corn dog chick -
Re: Confirmed roadkill: Badger
Considering what folks in Wisconsin do to roadkill, I understand its need to die here instead.

Re: Confirmed roadkill: Badger
Saw my uncle kill two of them with a tire iron, pretty fricking neat when you are 10 yrs. old. They hated them in S Dakota, dug big holes in the pastures.

We had a very similar experience while trapping. When we went to check the trap there was a hole about 4ft diameter and 2ft deep. I made a necklace out of one of the claws. Those things are awesome.

Re: Confirmed roadkill: Badger
It's been years since I've seen one. Didn't know their were some still around.
Civic cats are the other animal I haven't seen in a long time.
Those buggers are mean and they can dig fast.

Badgers have a rather good flavor when cooked.
