Maybe because he realized he did too much bad **** on the "island" and wasn't worthy to move on.

ben said he wasn't ready...he had some things to tie up. michael and walt...no idea.

Wrong. He died right after the plane took off as shown. He was always the main guy. The leader, the one everyone looked to for leadership which is why he was the last to come in.

Actually, they were all already "dead."...that plane taking off was still limbo. We don't know who died first, last, whatever. We do know who joined them last, and that was Jack.

I still think the events on the island took place. Hurley told Ben that he was a great #2, alluding to the fact that Hurley and Ben must of stayed on the island for a while after everything went down.

Explains why there were so many cultural things on the island too. Think about all the cultures in history. Some die, come to the island, have no idea so they build their temples and stuff.

Nope, I believe you are incorrect. The island happened. Christian told Jack that some died before him and some died after him. The Sideways world was 'purgatory'.

So did Jack die at the exact same time that he would have died at had the plane crashed on the island?

I don't think thats correct either. Jack was just the last to get enlightenment and move on in the sideways world.
