I believe that would be a question for her parents, and the answer would be different in every situation.

The government has the right to use capital punishment at 18, and you can be drafted at the age of 18, but apparently you cannot choose a person to have a relationship with until.....apparently these parents don't think your mature enough at 20.
They apparently don't, and who's to say they aren't correct. They're well within their rights to discipline their kid as they see fit. She's also a consenting adult and has the ability to live somewhere else away from their rules, she apparently has chosen not to. Now, whether or not it was acceptable to try and ruin the guy's career is another question. Which is I'm sure why he's pursuing legal action against them.

By the way, comparing this to the government's age of consent is a complete red herring. What's your point?

Yeah, I doubt I could keep the fact that I saw a dirty picture on her phone a secret from her, even if I wanted to, regardless of whether or not I approved of her relationship. If I borrowed my daughter's phone and saw a picture of some dude's block and tackle, I would have a hard time not bringing it up in conversation, and at least asking her about it. I don't care if she's 20 or 50. I think that's just being a good parent.

Thanksgiving, Easter, and Christmas are probably not good times to bring that up.

They'd be the first to tell you I'm an adult even though I don't pay for everything, and I've offered to pay for my car insurance as well as my phone.
Certainly parents differ; however, I'd bet if you demanded as opposed to offer to pay your own car insurance, as well as separate phone, they couldn't exactly say no. You are ultimately the one who has decided what you're going to pay for.
My comments were mainly directed at the girl's parents, their prism on this situation, and what would motivate them to go to the school.

She's in college on a full ride according to another poster. She's an adult. ****, if not completely supporting yourself means you're not an adult, we probably need to take a lot of people who are on government assistance and revoke their 'adulthood' priveliges. Not to mention that just paying for a cell phone doesnt give her parents the right to tell her, as an adult, what she can and can't do (all they can do is say 'we'll pull financial support and summer housing', but she's apparently on a full ride, so i bet she could manage), an it definitely is over the line to be going to his employer.

It is sadly interesting to read the comments that "he did nothing wrong" or the "school is going to be paying lottery money to this guy for wrongful termination". Whatever happened to morals and professional behaviour in our society? Sorry, children, but sending naked pics over cell phones may be a private matter between consenting adults, legally, but that does not make it acceptable behaviour. I would not want a teacher who is 32 that has this kind of relationship with a 20 year old, in a classroom with my highschool age kid. What do you think he has on his mind while he is over seeing studyhall?

Would it matter if she were 22, 25, 28, 30? Seriously, I'm sure his mind has the exact same thing on it as other teachers that have girlfriends or are married..."man running study hall sucks".

Two older gents are drinking coffee. ---- One says "sex is everywhere and looked at as nothing special and nothing saved for just to be shared privately with my wife and I." The other gent says says "My things have changed, why, my wife and I never slept together before we were married, how about you?."--- The 1st gent answers "I don't remember, what was her maiden name?'

My sister is a teacher and they told her in college to have a very clean and private facebook page b/c they look at that before they hire someone. I'm not surprised that this guy was fired and I'm sure he isn't either.

This is why he's going after the parents.

At-will employment offers no protection, and it's the antithesis of a property right. If he was on tenure, this would be a whole different situation.

That's your opinion; what's morally acceptable behavior in society is determined by the majority, and I'm not so sure you'd have the majority on this one.

10 years from now, if this site's still up, someone will revisit this thread and laugh at the uproar a few private pictures between adults caused.

Also, my parents started dating when she was 20 and he was 30; luckily her parents weren't as overbearing as janny & tornado

My wife is 8 years younger, but I never sent this sort of picture to her over a cell phone, e-mail or anything else. Maybe we're old-fashioned, but these ideas haven't really occurred to us.
