Web Creation/Web Editing Software
Anyone on this site know of a good software product to create and/or edit a website? Mircosoft's SharePoint is free and I am just beginning to play around with that.
I am a novice and was wondering what alternatives are out there? Which are easiest to use?
Thanks!

Re: Web Creation/Web Editing Software
Adobe Dreamweaver will cost you a few bones, but in terms of developmental power nothing touches it and I personally choose not to work with anything else.

Thanks! I used to use Dreamweaver back in the day.

Ripoff, but you can do EVERYTHING with it. Complete pain in the *** to learn, but once you figure it out, awesome tool to have.

This is a good free one: KompoZer - Easy web authoring
But, if you're willing to pay, Dreamweaver is the best. I used it all the time when I used to do more front-end work. I imagine it's even better now since that was about 5 years ago.

Re: Web Creation/Web Editing Software
I would use a system like Drupal or Wordpress instead of creating a one-off website from scratch.

Thanks for the ideas. I was not looking to invest much money so DreamWeaver is probably out. I might just have to play with SharePoint as it is free.

Re: Web Creation/Web Editing Software
Normally I'd use Dreamweaver to build a site, but nowadays I use Wordpress as the basis from all my websites. So I'd take this path...
I'd learn your basic HTML tags and then read up on the Wordpress famous 5 minute install. You can even find free templates that start with the look and feel you want and then use your HTML tags to alter its appearance. Knowing Photoshop will go a long way to achieving a "custom" look as well. Swap out the banner at the top, change the appearance of the buttons. Read up on CSS and mess around with some background color options or the appearance or your headers or links.
Good luck!

Re: Web Creation/Web Editing Software
Check out Coffeecup HTML Editor. Only $49.95 (or maybe even less now) and they'll give you a free trail period.
I find it very easy to use (and I'm not a computer type guy). It made it really easy for me to learn because the "Creating Web Pages for Dummies" book is written as if you're using Coffeecup...so you're getting step-by-step instruction. Check it out.

Re: Web Creation/Web Editing Software
Most likely you'll be directed towards Dream Weaver.
I use Microsoft FrontPage. I hate it, but I know how to use it. I find it the easiest product to use when building a page on a computer, but the html code it comes up with behind the scenes isn't the greatest and cause pains when putting the page on the internet.

Have you taken a look at Visual Web Developer? The express edition is free.

You Dreamweaver experts - what is the best resource you have found to learn the software?
