Re: Rolling Stone's Top 5 Songs
Yeah, I'm not the most musically versed person out there but I think the Dylan song is the only one that fits. No Zepplin, no Beatles (who I'm not really a fan of), no Nirvana (who I'm also not a fan of), no Elvis (who I'm also not a fan of)?
Like or dislike the above bands, they radically changed the music landscape in America.
Marvin Gaye? Please.

Re: Rolling Stone's Top 5 Songs
Rolling stone is to music what ESPN is to sports. A dog and pony show that shoves agenda's down your throat, its tough to take anything that comes from that rag seriously.

Nobody but HB knows for sure. You pretty much know nothing....like Knownothing would like to say.

Re: Rolling Stone's Top 5 Songs
Where is "Let It Be?" or "Hey Jude?" The Beatles only had the most #1 Hit songs of all time....you would think one of them would be in there. Imagine from John Lennon was one I immediatly thought of as well. Stairway To Heaven should have been listed. Billie Jean from Michael Jackson? Pianoman from Billy Joel? Satisfaction from The Rolling Stones? What's going on and Respect? Are you kidding me?
What about the Thong Song....COME ON!!! -
Re: Rolling Stone's Top 5 Songs
No "Stairway?" ...yes that was a shocker! In fact, I thought that was the most popular song in any era, or genre.

I take that back - songwriting was not a prerequisite for making the list;"RESPECT" was written by Otis Redding, so Oldman is correct, an Elvis song definitely needs to be in that list.

2) Baba O'Reilly
3) Sympathy for the Devil
4) Johnny B. Goode
5) Hound Dog

Re: Rolling Stone's Top 5 Songs
All 5 are great, but for me, I've long said Sympathy for the Devil is #1.
Have you checked out the reissue of Exile on Main Street?

Re: Rolling Stone's Top 5 Songs
Those 5 were chosen by an ex-hippie trying to relive the glory years. The songs are sampled from a very tight window and don't respect different genres at all.

Re: Rolling Stone's Top 5 Songs
I'd have to definitely put "Maggie May" in my top 5.

RS likes it because the lyrics were in touch with the social upheaval of the period.
