KGGO's Memorial Weekend Top 500 Rock Songs
Don't know about you guys, but this is appointment radio for me. The last few years, I've been parked by a radio for the better portion of this countdown with a couple ice cold beers.
Can't beat great weather, great music and great beer. This is going to be a very good weekend.

I loved listening to KGGO back when I lived in central Iowa. My boss used to listen to it when we roofed all summer and whenever I hear any classic rock "that rocks" it takes me back to the glory days of roofing in extreme summer heat on a 10/12.

I might be a bit biased and I certainly haven't lived outside of central Iowa for an extended period of time, but when I've traveled, I've never found a classic rock station that I enjoyed as much as KGGO. I was down in Texas once and had my dial on a classic rock station for a couple days while I was there and they seriously played "Layla" like three times a day. At least KGGO mixes it up a little.

I haven't really lived outside of Iowa for that long, only about a year over in Illannoy, and I have yet to find a good classic rock station over here. Whenever I come back that way, once I'm in range, my radio goes straight to KGGO. When Prepared, Fear No One. -

I love classic rock, however when I was in college I worked at a place where the boss had the radio in the backroom on KGGO 24/7. It seemed like there was very little variety in their playlist from one night to the next or one day to the next. At the time we could probably sit down and list 90% of the songs they would play on our shift.
Hearing the same songs night after night and day after day got old.
I hope they have changed this because there is enough great classic rock out there that it should never get old!

If there's any criticism of KGGO that I have, I think they sometimes trend too new with their music selection. There's plenty of times where they don't play anything that was released before 1975.

I used to listen to it 24/7 for about 3 months during the summer and I can hear the complaint of repeats, but that was because I listened to it soo much. But, for the casual listener, they do a good job at keeping a good variety.

Re: KGGO's Memorial Weekend Top 500 Rock Songs
My only beef with KGGO, is that when I'd be around the radio all day, I'd could predict what they would play, and when they'd play it. I suppose that, and I had this annoying coworker that would start singing to himself every time an Ozzy song came on.
The best classic rock station in Iowa, however, has to be 103.7 The Fox, out of Mason City. North Iowa, you're rockin' with the Fox. I've always said the way to tell a good classic rock station, from a great classic rock station is whether they play the Beatles version of "Come Together" or the Aerosmith cover. The Fox = Beatles. KGGO = Aerosmith.

I am with you. I used to roof for my brother's construction company and KGGO was all we listened to. Everytime the noon whistle went off I knew it was time to get off the hot as hell roof. Hard work but good times.

I think they do this every Memorial Weekend. Do the songs change? Is there a new number one every year or is the list repeated?
