I can't tell you for sure but since it takes money to put on a race (thus the registration fee), I'd have to assume they monitor this somehow.

If you think about it, is it really fair to have others pay for your security, to have the roads blocked off for you, etc. so you can run for free? You can run that route anytime you want but if you're going to experience it as part of this race, seems only right that you pay just like everyone else. If you missed the deadline, that is not really the fault of the others who made it and paid.

Sounds like we could get more than just rain during the race. KCCI's future-cast shows strong storms with the potential for hail in the area around 7:30 a.m. Glad I decided to sit this one out.

The website explicitly states that they want NO non-registered entries. With that said, I personally wouldnt care if someone was running without a number.

Can I give my race number and chip to another runner?
No, do not transfer race numbers. Any runner with the wrong race number will be disqualified and runners involved will be asked to not participant again at Dam to Dam. Changing race numbers can create unintended award and medical problems. Additionally, bandits are not allowed in this race - permits, police fees, organizational costs, etc are reserved only for those who registered.

Yeah, yeah, I understand that I should have paid. I ****ed up, and would gladly pay the fee if they would still let me.

That said, I'm not getting a shirt, or any of the other freebies that the fee goes towards. I've had friends who've just showed up and ran it in the past, and they had no problems, but they sure talk a big game on the website.

I think they close registration because the course cannot handle more than 8000 runners in the allotted time.

The shirt is the only part of the swag that the race committee usually has to pay for. The other freebies are usually donated by the sponsors. Its cheap and easy advertising and a way to get some people in their stores. All of the other money usually goes to the cause or to pay for the rental of the porta pots barracades etc.

This being said I will admit that I have ran a few races without paying for them. I stopped doing this because most of them are for a good cause and I just felt bad not donating but still using all of the amenities.

"in the past" the race had no danger of hitting its max # of participants. That is no longer the case. Just saying...

    Re: Dam to Dam

Hopefully we get a break for awhile in the morning. I sure hope we do not get the hail, that would SUCK!

Channel 13 is showing very heavy rain over Des Moines during the race time.

I am still gunning for 1:34, hhopefully the weather will not affect my time too much.

How did everyone do? I know official times aren't up, but I timed myself at about 1:46...about 7 mins fast than last year.

    Re: Dam to Dam

Did everyone see the group running to the start line after the race had started? Yeah, that was me. Our bus dropped us off a few minutes before the start, we ran to the start for awhile until the wave of people came. We were not happy!

My 'gun' time was 1:45. I am hoping to shave about 10 minutes off of that with chip time, we will see how that works out.

I was right around 1:49. Was hoping for a bit faster, but pretty good for my first time. I had only run 7.5mi before today.

My gf ran ~1:37. It was her first ever dam to dam. If you saw a goofy looking bike rider in a full rain suit, that was me. If I got in your way, sorry.

    Re: Dam to Dam

Had a great time. I was impressed by how well it was run as this was my first time. The worst part of the race was sitting for 1.25 hours at the dam getting soaked before the race. After that, it wasn't so bad.

    Re: Dam to Dam

That was a pretty awesome time.

I was able to get an official #, and what not. Farthest I'd ever run before. The beer tasted great.
