I agree that qwest is a bit slower than mediacom's cable modem, and I wasn't involved in this thread a while ago but the "slowdown" always happened to me. The internet would go slow as crap about 50% of the time. It was really weird. We have qwest now and I while I miss the speeds of the modem I don't miss the hassle. At all.
When it comes to DVR's I actually prefer to just have a computer with a tuner connected to cable. I use a mac mini (Hard Drive upgraded to 750GB) with an EyeTV attached using their software. If you want to watch TV and record something at the same time, split the connection, run a cable to the computer w/ tuner, and then the other connection goes to the TV.
With an arrangement like this, are you watching the recorded shows on the PC or on your TV. Do you have an output to the TV? I've thinking about doing this and scrapping the DVR and service from Mediacom. I just want to be sure I can still watch the shows on my TV and not sitting in front of the PC monitor.
