I think it is like $7 million/year. NBC gets to put about 6 games/season on their stations? Even if it is double that they would make a ton more in the Big 12 with their own network possibilities available to them. Their administration can still say they are basically independent at that point.
What if the Big 12 decided to go to 7 conference games if Arkansas and ND joined the conference? ND could keep some rivalry games and most Big 12 teams would get another home game. You would play the other 5 schools in your division plus 2 in the other division. A winner would still be determined with a championship game. The Big 12 would be a cash printing press.
Who knows, maybe. I'm sure the Big 10 would be willing to be flexible with ND's NBC contract as well if it meant getting them into the conference. ND in the Big 12 just seems a bit off. Academics are a huge deal to the institution and especially alumni and donors. The academic chops of the Big 12 just don't seem like something ND would be willing to accept. The $$$ that ND could make from the resources and opportunities presented by the CIC would be huge. They wouldn't have that in the Big 12.
I wasn't aware that Notre Dame begins a football series with Oklahoma in 2012 and is also scheduled to play Baylor. In addition, Notre Dame may schedule Texas.

I think it's up around $9 million net per year. They'd make more than twice that in the Big 10, from TV revenue alone, not including the huge research/grant $$$ that could come by being in the CIC. Still, with the new Big 12 TV deal to come, the gap between what they'd make in the Big 10 vs. the Big 12 in football revenue seems to be quite a bit closer than it has been. So who knows.
ND keeping 6 NBC games + the B12 TV contract > BTN
I think this is a long shot, but if ND joins the B12 and have their own network, along with sharing revenue from the B12 tv contract (same with Texas), I wouldn't be surprised to see Penn State, OSU and Mich push for something similar, which could lead to unequal revenue sharing in the B10
If Notre Dame wanted their own network they could have one without conference affiliation. They already recruit nationally, and their games are broadcast on network television, not cable. I don't believe an 8 game conference schedule would be very appealing to them either. The only way I could see this working is if Notre Dame and Texas formed an alliance to rule all of college sports.
Wow! I don't see Arkansas and Notre Dame joing the Big XII; however, I would absolutely love if it happenend! Go Cyclones!
If there's one school in the country that could get away with their own network being broadcast nationwide, it's ND.
Did Jerry Jones buy the Big 12-10? His name sure comes up a lot when the New Big 12 talk comes up.
Not holding my breath, but I'd trade NU and CU for Arkansas and Notre Dame any day.
