My frustration was Jordan Creek. We got our seats for a 1:00 movie at 12:35, the movie threater was packed already. They play previews up until 1...thinking alright maybe another 5-10 minutes of previews...25 minutes later. By the end my little guy wanted to leave so bad. For little kids movies PLEASE Jordan Creek no more than 5-10-heck even 15 minutes of previews but trying to keep a wild 3 year old boy was tough. A bunch of the parents around us had the same problem that is a long time to keep still and quiet...but I guess that's parenting 101.
Excited for Cars, as well. It will be interesting to see if they keep Toy Story going. My wife and I went with our 3 year old. It was his first movie in the theater. We got there early enough to get good seats and then my wife was kind enough to take my son for a walk during the early previews. She got back just before it went dark and it worked out perfectly. He was such a good boy. He actually sat still for the whole movie, he kept his 3D glasses on, stayed awake, and only talked once. He yelled at the mean monkey, "No Monkey! Get that Monkey!" Overall he was an angel, which I was really afraid he wouldn't be.

As much I as enjoyed The Incredibles, and would look forward to revisiting those characters, because they are such good storytellers, I can't help but wish that they would focus on entirely new stories. Ahhh....gotcha.
Unfortunately I think this is the result of Disney's takeover of Pixar. Disney loves sequels and, although I think Pixar will always come up with a great story, Disney may call the shots as to what stories they get to tell from now on!

This was my almost 3-year old's first movie in a theater as well. He sat still the entire time. I thought it was pretty scary for really little ones. He seemed to do alright, although he said he only liked the "happy" parts. I thought it was a great movie as well!

Yeah, the monkey scared the crap out of my 4 year old daughter, in fact I think it scared my wife as well. 2.5 year old son didn't seem to bother him, but my daughter screamed out loud at the monkey. I don't get why the kids movies have to be so dark lately, the new Shrek was scary for her as well. She has all the other Shrek and Toy Story movies, nothing real scary in any of them, but then in both of these new movies they had some parts that she definitely did not like.

Did you watch cartoons and movies in the 80's and 90's? Secret of Nimh was pretty dark as was the Dark Crystal. Actually most kids shows had dark elements back then. We didnt sugar coat entertainment until as of late.

Also, the WB used to have a cartoon called "Histeria" where there was a reference to the movie "Deliverance" and oinking like a pig.

I don't know why I remember it being such a great kids movie, as it was extremely violent and my husband and I agreed we won't be allowing our kids to see it until they are much older.

You made it alright didnt you? =)
Im a believer in a fair balance. The more you sugar coat something the less prepared a person is for negative outcome and the world is full of it. Im not talking about sex and uber violence in movies, but experiencing a loss. Bambi was rough when the mom was shot, but experiencing that helped I think. Bambi overcame that obstacle. Disney has always tugged at the heart strings. If anything I think it gives kids some empathy and sympathy skills. Maybe its just me I guess.
Every kid is different so its hard to say.

Re: Just got back from Toy Story 3...
I think in the past, the cartoons like Tom and Jerry, Woody Woodpecker, Disney Movies didn't have the "dark" element in them but just plain violence when they beat each other, which could look funny for kids. Those things never bothered me.
Now the element is more psychological: threats, hatred, etc: those are the things kids could feel and sense. As and adult when I watched TS3, I could sense that certain parts could be too scary for the kids

Just wasn't something we expected in a G rated movie that our kids have seen before.

Thats hard. My 5 year old hated the monkey. Freaked him out quite a bit. Next time he watches it Im sure he will cover his eyes at that part.

I was actually going to post something about Fox and the Hound. I watched it recently for the first time probably since I was three or four and realized there were a lot of violent and dark things in the film when all I remembered about it was the young fox and hound playing and the fox finding a girl fox when he gets older. Young children will get scared in certain films, but in the end they usually just remember the movies for the fun characters and ignore the scary parts anyway.
It's part of the reason why Toy Story 3 is so successful with all audiences: kids will like the movie regardless just because it has colorful toys with humorous moments in it, so the writers have some freedom to make a story that appeals to the teens and adults as well. And coming from someone who was five when the original Toy Story was released, Sid's room is ******* scary and I grew up (mostly) fine. -
