When I go to the East Coast (NYC-Jersey), I can't wait to get to a real deli and get an authentic bagel. I am refering to the tuff crust on the outside and heavy, chewy, moist on the inside kind. Not what I most unfortunately find in SW Ia. grocery chain bakery/deli's. Are there any good bagels in Des Moines (Golden Circle)?

You'll be hard pressed to find a bagel as good as those out east. Most people believe it is the water on the east coast that makes the difference.
They say country music speaks to the heart. Unfortunately, it has to go through your ears to get there.
I lived near DC for 2 years and I agree that bagels on the East Coast rock!! Not even Bruegers is close to a good East Coast Bagel. The other things that are great is the seafood and pastrami deli sanwiches. (There were lots of great jewish delis nearby.)

Head up to Ankeny and get some frosted bagel bites at CJ's Bagels. You're welcome in advance. :)
Not just the frosted bagels, but ALL their bagels. The asiago especially.
