Google: Account temporarily disabled

Anyone ever have someone hack into their gmail account.

Today I was sitting at work and suddenly I get an email to my work address from my gmail account. It had a link on it. I immediately sent an email to the other 4 people on the email not to click on the link.

I then went to a non-work PC and logged into my gmail account and it said the account was temporarily disabled (google knew something was wrong). I went through the process of reseting my password and everything came up fine.

I've been online for about 20 years (prodigy 14.4) and have never had a virus, email hacked, etc

Has this happened to anyone else? How did someone do this? Suggestions?

Happened to my wife and I last week. Still do not know how or what happened. Nothing shows up on my firewall or scanner. Changed all passwords and been fine since. Still curious as to how it happened, but thankfully noone else that got spammed by the hack (from my account) clicked on the link. Did you check more than the four addresses that it said it sent it to? My outbox only showed 13 sent, but got a few emails from friends (not on the list) letting me know that my account was hacked cause they received suspicious links.

Did either of you think to look at the headers to see if it actually came from gmail before deleting the e-mails?

I have had this happen with my yahoo email twice. Once the email originated in California and once in Missouri.

Yes and as far as I can tell it did.

They don't necessarily have to hack your account. If they only had 4 addresses that isn't bad. The two times my email address was used, the spam was sent to almost my entire mailbox.

Had it not originated from the gmail servers, I would guess that someone else (who had both your work & home address) got a spambot, found your e-mail address, and proceeded to send out e-mails under your name.

Did you have an "easy" password set up?

Not real easy but not real tough. It's now locked down tighter.

ive had that happen almost the same thing....i had to start a new account cause all kinds of stuff happened after that too
